One of the big trends in handbags for 2011 is texture. Different textures, different materials, even different hardware on the bags all contribute to a sense of touch and a sense of sensuality. The use of texture seems to be about bringing handbags into a new dimension. Different designers have all embraced this concept of using different types of leather, or in the case of Stella McCartney and some others, no leather at all. But the designers have taken standard leather and made it feel different, so that part of a bag will feel smooth, then part of it will feel much less smooth and have a different texture.
Creating different sensations on a bag really strongly hints at sensuality and about a handbag being a way of expressing that sensuality. F or example, Reece Hudson has, with the sling shoulder bags, created woven panels to really make the bag stand out from the crowd. When you look at the woven leather it is simply incredible. Only the best craftsmen in the world could make a bag like this and that is why these bags stand out as being very much on trend and very much designer led. Cheap or cut price bags will not catch up with this trend for different textures, until next season at least and even then will probably look like a poor imitation!
