After having my first born I was resolve to stay home and work. The only problem was I spent hours upon hours looking for that perfect opportunity that I would enjoy and would allow me to make money. Do you want to know what happened? If you guessed, that I went back to work and never made anything happen, you’re right.

I was scared to make the leap and I just couldn’t find the “right” business for me. Today, I’m here to offer support if you too are having trouble finding the right work-at-home opportunity. There are hundreds of ways to make a living without a job. But, if you want to really create work that you love and stay home with your kiddos follow my advice.

1. You can’t do it alone. No matter what stage you are in, whether you are just discovering your passions or just starting your business you will need support.

You can gain support from family members and friends. However, chances are your family and friends may not understand what you are trying to do and may discourage you from doing it. When this happens, simply know that they are only trying to protect you and you will simply have to get support elsewhere.

You can find support by getting in the conversation to learn more about where you can find like-minded people. They could be at garden shows, your local community college, the adult learning annex or online. You can join a mastermind group, hire a coach or host potlucks at your home for people who are pursuing their dreams. Whatever, you decide to do, know that isolation can stifle your growth and kill your dreams in an instant, so get out there and get connected.

2. You need to get clear on your “what” and your “why” This may sound simple, but if you are not clear on what you’re doing and why you are doing it then you will have a hard time building your business. Your, “what” comes from what you love to do and the life that you would like to live. When you get clear on what you want to do to create joyful work then finding opportunities to fit that life becomes 10 times easier than searching for something you were not completely clear on in the first place. You can create a vision board of your ideal life, write a list of things you enjoy and write a list of things that you’re good at. Then when you come up with an idea for making money, test that idea with how you’d like to live and what you enjoy doing. If that idea is incongruent with your vision, that idea is not for you.

Next, getting clear on why you’re pursuing this dream to work at what you love gives you the motivation to not give up. Maybe you’d like to make more money, be in control of your time or have jean day every day. Or maybe you have always had a dream to own a restaurant. Or maybe you would like to simply be able to pick your children up at the end of the school day. Knowing your “whys” will help you get through those bumpy spots that will inevitably come when you choose to create work you enjoy.

3. The way you think will MASSIVELY impact your success. I have good and bad news. The bad news is our limiting beliefs and thoughts about family, money, work and happiness has stifled our potential and has placed us where we are today. The good news is we can always change what we believe and how we think.

For instance, instead of saying “I can’t afford that” you can say “I can’t afford that right now.” Why would you change your language? When you say I can’t afford it, it is permanent. You can’t afford it now, nor will you ever afford it. But when you change your language and your thoughts you begin to believe that you have the power to make more money to afford whatever you may need.

Also, when you hear people say something like “rich people are greedy, selfish and corrupt.” Do you agree with that statement? Does this belief have you thinking I just need enough money to pay my bills and get a pedicure and manicure every now and again?

I am grateful for what I have and I know that I have everything that I need is a thought of abundance. But you may be unconsciously rejecting money because you think it is evil. Instead of thinking money is the root of all evil, think about how you will be able to take better care of yourself and the people you love when you make more money.
