For smaller business with tighter budgets, printing an ad in the local rag is both costly and largely ineffective, yet many still focus their efforts on doing so. Not everyone will see the ad and if they do, they may forget about it and fail to act on it. There are no guarantees and the exposure is very limited indeed. There are other options though.
Printed catalogues are popular
Some businesses will look to print catalogues and send them out two or three times a year. This is great of customers are loyal and place orders on a regular basis. If a business is yet to establish themselves though this might not be the best route to go down. Firstly there is the expense of printing the catalogue, and then there is the delivery to think about. Because of their size, they can be too bulky to fit through letter boxes so may not even reach the customers they are intended for. Think about postcards in comparison.
Cheap to produce
If you are a new business setting up and want to inform your local customers about your services then what better way to do this than by postcard. They are cheap to produce and large enough to carry an adequate amount of information to tell your customers a little about yourself. You can post them through the door by hand or you can pay to have them delivered. Because of their size you can bet that whatever option you go for, you will be paying much less that you would posting something larger and heavier.
Think about what you can include on your postcard. Think about the front of it. As with a magazine, leaflet, or brochure, the front page, cover, or front of the postcard will need to be eye catching so that people want to pick it up and look at it. You could include your brand along with some relevant images that will grab people’s attention. Now think about the back.
What information to include
Here you could say something about your business. You could write a couple of sentences about what you do and what you supply so that your potential customers can get a feel for you as a business. You could have your text in bold writing, or cleverly in a handwriting style so that it looks a little more personalised. Include some instructions about what your customers can do with their postcard if you are offering them an incentive that is redeemable with it, for instance.
Giving your customers just a taste of what you do can reap massive rewards so think carefully about how you will pitch yourself and what you will mention because this is what your customers will take away with them and remember!
