Ultimate Health with the Amazing Placebo
by Vince DaCosta
When you got out of bed this morning your heart was pumping. Without any conscious effort, it continues to pump. It may have been pumping for quite a while. Twenty years? Forty years? Fifty or sixty years?
Doesn’t matter, because you’ve never made a conscious effort to make it pump. It’s all been done by your subconscious mind. It also makes your lungs breathe, and your digestive system work. What a miracle!
The subconscious mind controls our health. There are thousands of other tasks being performed all the time. The subconscious is designed to keep our bodies in peak operating condition, and it will do this as long as we don’t use our conscious mind to thwart it. Worry, fear, stress, anger and other negative emotions will get in the way of the subconscious mind and its program, and sickness might result. However, if we send the right message to the subconscious mind it has all that it needs to return our bodies to perfect health.
Norman Cousins found this out while he was critically ill, and used this knowledge to recover and tell the story of his discovery. Norman Cousins was a prolific writer, receiving over 50 honorary degrees and numerous awards during his lifetime. In his most successful book, Anatomy of an Illness, he described his recovery from one of his critical illnesses. In 1977 Cousins contracted cancer. He refused the standard medical treatment, and subscribed rather to a belief in laughter. He believed that laughter would release endorphins, which would heal him. He then proceeded to “laugh” himself to health. He obtained movies, read books, had people visit him who would make him laugh. He laughed until it hurt. His cancer went into remission. His experience was documented in his book, Anatomy of an illness, which was later made into a CBS movie.
The reason for the dramatic recovery that Norman Cousins experienced was not the laughter, but the belief in the laughter. With his conscious mind he told his subconscious mind that laughter was the solution to his illness, and his subconscious accepted that as truth. It proceeded to return him to good health. This is what the scientific world calls “the Placebo Effect”.
Dr. Bruce Lipton PhD suggests that the Placebo Effect should be a major topic of study in medical school. Dr. Lipton believes that medical education should train doctors to recognize the power of our “internal resources”. Throughout his book, The Biology of Belief he describes the science of how thoughts control life. Dr. Bruce Lipton PhD is an internationally recognized cell biologist and University Professor.
The Placebo Effect is the result of a patient taking “fake” medication, believing it will help, and getting better. The medication may be just a sugar pill, but has a result similar to a genuine medication. The conclusion is the patient’s belief is the healing factor.
Don’t wait to get ill before calling on the amazing Placebo Effect. Insure your health now by beginning to engage the Placebo Effect. Send the right messages to your subconscious Mind. Fill you conscious thoughts with pictures of abundant health and happiness. Visualize yourself strong and filled with energy and purpose. Entertain thoughts of love and kindness and compassion. Fill your mind with gratitude. Your subconscious will accept these conditions as true and will begin to work to make them a reality in your life. Sounds unrealistic and silly, doesn’t it. Except that it works !
Look around you and witness the result of people who visualize failure and disaster in their lives. People who tell themselves constantly that they are without value and unwanted. People who are weighed down with depression and mental illnesses. Little do they know that they are attracting these conditions to themselves by empowering their subconscious minds to create these conditions. They are among the thousands frequenting our hospitals with depression, mental breakdown and suicide.
You too can use the Placebo Effect in your own life. You can heal yourself by convincing your subconscious mind that your health will improve. You can use the Placebo Effect in other areas of your life. You can develop a belief that you will be a happier and more joyful person by entertaining thoughts of Love, Joy and Peace of Mind. Almost magically the subconscious mind will accept these thoughts and emotions as true and will begin to realize these conditions in your experience.
Albert Einstein said “there are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle.” Begin to see the miracles that are all around you and be thankful and grateful to be a part of the ultimate miracle – LIFE. Your life will then begin to resemble the words of the psalmist David, “my cup runneth over.”
