Covert hypnosis, also commonly referred to as conversational hypnosis, is the ability to communicate with someone's sub-conscious mind on a very subtle level, without them even noticing. You may have done this on several occasions yourself whilst speaking to someone or someone may have done it to you, without your knowledge. Great salespeople use this strategy all the time. Their intention is to get the buyer to believe that their life will be better off purchasing whatever is for sale. The conversation between the seller and the buyer may start off with the buyer showing little or no interest in buying, but with the use of covert hypnosis, may end up with him or her buying and feeling as if they themselves made the decision to do so. The secret is, that the buyer never made that decision. The sales person used conversational hypnosis to create this perception in his or her sub-conscious mind, which convinced their conscious mind they had to have it.

Covert hypnosis uses a combination of deliberately placed words in sentences, various types of body language and particular gestures and expressions in order to communicate a certain message. To the person being spoken to (subject) by a covert hypnotist, they are simply having a conversation and is unaware that messages are being lodged in their sub-conscious mind. The goal of covert hypnosis is to make the subject feel as if they made the decision to change their mind, and not the other way around.

Let's have a look at how it is all done. The first step to covert hypnosis is building some kind of rapport with the subject. It always helps if they have just that little bit of trust in you before you start, as they will open up more and you can easier gain access to their subconscious mind. Secondly, you have to start asking them leading questions which typically has positive answers or the answer “yes”. After a while, their sub-conscious will start picking up on this trend of responding with positive answers and it seems natural for it to keep saying “yes.” When you notice this happening, you insert the final question which you want to them to say “yes” to.

All these questions have been leading up to this one final question. Occasionally the subject becomes perplexed when they realize that they just responded with “yes” to a question that would have been a “no” just minutes ago, however, the majority of people will trust this answer and stand behind their “yes”. People sometimes refer to this as their “gut-feeling” and afterwards say: “It just felt right”. Well, the only reason it felt right was that the person you spoke to had primed you for the last 5 minutes to believe that “yes” was the right thing to say.

Covert hypnosis is an art that takes time to master and you will not become a “guru” over night. However, with the right guidelines and practice you can use it daily with great results.. Once you start mastering this art you will understand how powerful it is, but please us it wisely. If used wisely and positively, it can have a dramatic impact on your achievements and take you from an “Average Joe” to a real person of influence.
