Porcelain crowns are used to restore a damaged tooth and this could be as a result of different kinds of dental situations. The crowns are commonly used on filled teeth which have degraded leaving them more filling than teeth. This means that structure of the teeth has become weak and hence cannot support the filling thus porcelain crown remains to be the option. They can also be used on decayed and teeth which are extensively damaged.

These crowns also deal with other common dental issues including compromised esthetics and discolorations and fractures. People who have had root canal done will also most often need the crowns to be placed as protective measures since the teeth are left brittle after the procedure thus making them prone to fracture. Those who have also bridges replacing their teeth will have the crowns placed on teeth which are adjacent as supports for the replaced teeth.

The porcelain crowns are not only used to protect and support the tooth structure but are also a great way of improving the teeth appearance. The porcelain used in making the crowns can be pure or mixed with other metals depending on what the patient or dentist feels is best for the situation at hand. The choice will most probably revolve around the esthetic conce
s and strength requirement and your dentist will have you involved in the selection so that in the end you are most comfortable with the selection.

The procedures will mainly begin by preparation of the crown to be placed on the tooth. This is because the dentist will need to have the right crown for the right tooth which means that a mold or impression of that particular tooth has to be taken and prepared. This is done by having a crown placed onto the tooth for a few days after which it is removed to make the real crown for the tooth. The crown will then be fitted, adjusted and finally cemented onto the tooth. The porcelain crowns are quite strong that you won’t feel any difference even when eating your food.
There are numerous dentists offering the porcelain crown services. You however will need to conduct a research for the best to ensure that the procedure fetches you the best results. Your dentist should be a professional and experienced in the procedure besides having the right qualifications. At least this way you will expect the best results.
