Gwalior is a city with a royal descent and it is in the Madhya Pradesh State. This offers a fair merging tradition and modern set up. This is another most developed city in India, and housing many well known educational institutions. It also has industries like cotton, chemicals and ceramics. Here are some of the best places to visit in Gwalior.
Narwar is a place where the themes of legends and folk songs came from. It is dominated by hilltop standing and magnificent fort. The fort you see in the place and the Narwar Palace is in a Rajput style. It has flat ceilings, multi foil arches and fluted columns. It has an interior embellishment of glass beads as well.
Another popular attraction is The Orchha, a medieval town. This is famous for the palaces and forts present in the place. It was built with between the 17th and 18th centuries. The most awaited site to see in the Orchna is the Jehangir Mahal. This is a rectangular palace with eight minarets. It was built to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jehangir on the 17th century. The town of Orchha has four important temples namely, the Janki, Chaturbhuj Mandir, Laxmi and Raja Ram. The Laxmi Mandir has designs of exquisite paintings on ceilings and walls of three corridors. The people here have preserved the vibrant colors and original style of the structure.
Do not leave Gwalior without visiting Suraj Kund. This is a 15th century creation of a gigantic complex dating way back in 425AD. It is within the walls of the fort. This is where Suraj Sen or Suraj Pal was cured by a Gwalipa's saint in the original pond.
Gwalior Fort, on the other hand, has always dominated the city. It has a magnificent monument that when visitors never tire of looking at. This place is the scene of major momentous events like battles and imprisonments. The outer walls of the fort once witnessed several momentous events in Indian history. The construction of this fort has been inspired by Emperor Babur.
Meanwhile, the Chanderi is a craft center that made the famous sarees and brocades. It has a picturesque display of tanks and temples. This was built by Bundelas, bearing the 9th and 10th century temples of Jain. It is a very important pilgrim center for Indians.
Gurudwara Data Bandhi Chhod was built in the time of sixth Sikh Guru who was Guru Hargobind Saheb. It was said that this Guru was imprisoned in this place by Emperor Jehangir.
