A trip to Africa to visit Tanzania is truly a journey of a lifetime. To make the adventure even more worthwhile, many people are combing their travels with a charitable aspect by participating in a charity challenge. A charity challenge is a way to raise money for a worthy cause whilst providing an unforgettable experience.
There are many charity expeditions available and Tanzania has many popular trips to choose from. Here are some of the more popular "must see" locations if you travel to this popular African region.
The Serengeti National Park is what most people imagine a trip to Africa should look like. The Serengeti is grassland that is home to an abundance of wildlife. It is here that wildebeest and zebras start their annual migration. Whilst day trips are popular, spending time ove
ight in the park is unforgettable. Another popular activity is a hot air balloon ride over the plains.
Mount Kilimanjaro is popular with adventure travelers and summiting the peak is a real challenge. Many combine a charity aspect to their trip to Kilimanjaro, raising money based on completing the climb. Whilst challenging, this climb requires no special mountaineering equipment; just good fitness and strong mental spirit. The whole expedition takes about 6 days in total.
Zanzibar is another well-known spot, famous for its beaches and rich history of spice trading. Located on the Indian Ocean, the area also boasts the island paradise of Mnemba. The capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town, offers incredible historic sightseeing as well.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the home of the rare black rhinoceros. Animals congregate in the Ngorongoro Crater where the impact zone encloses an abundance of wildlife species. This makes it ideal for photographers and those looking to spot Africa's Big Five.
The Selous is not as famous as the Serengeti, but it is actually the largest reserve in Africa. In addition to the grasslands, the Selous is also famous for its safaris by boat. These trips allow visitors to get up close to the hippos and crocs that roam the rivers and wetlands.
Tarangire National Park is another hidden gem in Tanzania. It is much less crowded than other reserves, however during the dry season it attracts an immense concentration of game, as animals congregate at key watering places. Elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala are all in view.
Kataviis in a very remote area so it is less crowded and the landscape is wild and untamed. Hippos are in abundance during the dry season as they crowd into the small pools of water. The safaris here require a short plan ride and so the cost is a bit higher than others, but the experience is truly unique.
Mafia Island is water paradise with beautiful beaches and marine parks. The diving and snorkeling is truly unique as one can view the giant (but safe) whale shark and ocean turtles. It is also a great spot for deep-sea fishing. For sightseeing, the island has a rich Swahili culture one can explore.
Tanzania has a lot to offer the adventurous traveler. And while a trip is expensive, one can help pay for the cost by looking into a charity expedition. This provides one with the experience of an unforgettable adventure while helping a worthwhile charity at the same time.
