Hunting has been the main source of food and later passion of mankind during the nineteenth and twentieth century. Humans have hunted different animals for various purposes. However, big game hunting thrill has always been the most exuberant. Many African safari tours are arranged to hunt the South Africa big five. Do you know what big game hunting really is? Which animals are enlisted in the South Africa bigfive? Let us see which animals have made it to top. The South Africa big five are Lion, Leopard, African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, and Rhinoceros. African safari tours have played a major role in popularizing these animals as part of the big game hunting. Lion Lion just does not only belong to the cat family, it is without a doubt, king of the jungle. Hunting the lion has been one of the rarest moments in any hunter’s life. Lion is very quick on its feet, extremely dangerous, and fearless. Killing a lion takes the heart of a lion. Ask any big hunter who has ever hunted a lion and he will tell you what it takes to hunt one. Ideal time of hunting a lion is in the late hours of the night till dawn. Leopard Leopard is also a member of the cat family. A key thing to note about leopard is its unpredictable behavior because of which it is very difficult to hunt. It may take from few days to many weeks before a hunter is finally able to get close to a leopard. Baiting has been rarely successful in case of hunting a leopard. Leopard can easily climb trees which makes it even more dangerous than a lion. Leopard can also run faster than most of the safari animals. African Elephant African Elephant is one of the largest mammals living on earth. Elephant is an extremely social animal and is found with its herd. Baiting can be a successful trick in hunting an African Elephant. However, make sure you have the right kind of weapon to kill an elephant that ways thousands of pounds and can be extremely dangerous once aggravated. Cape Buffalo Cape Buffalo is extremely unpredictable in terms of its behavior towards other animals and specially humans. Cape Buffalo is found mostly in sub Saharan and South African regions. The sheer weight and bigger horns of the Cape Buffalo make it an extremely dangerous animal to hunt. Many hunters even organize events with big prizes to hunt a Cape Buffalo. Rhinoceros A Rhinoceros is very heavy and extremely large in size. Rhinoceros also live in herds and can sense danger from a great distance. It takes a lot of time and effort to track this animal for hunting. It is an herbivorous animal and has a very thick skin. You need to have a big bore rifle to kill a rhinoceros.
