Life brings you many miracle moments + it’s your responsibility to pick them up + do something with them.rnAfter dinner, my wife + I go to the back of the ship to watch the sunset + have an after-dinner drink. I grabbed a Scotch and cigar and just sat + talked about “rules.” Why they’re made. Do you abide by them? Do you make them up? Are they real?rnAs my cigar needed another light, I saw a man sitting alone at the next table over + asked him if I can borrow his lighter. Not only did he let me use it, he invited me to sit down next to him to chat so I did. He was 65 year old man named “Jerry” from Washington DC. We had a great conversation for just a few minutes but just enough for him to ask me this question:rnJerry: “How old are you Henry?”rnMe: “38.”rnJerry: “You’re young. It took me 65 years to be able to travel here on this boat. It only took you 38. You’re clearly way ahead of me.” What’s it feel like to be cruising down the coastline of France at 38 years old with your beautiful wife and son?”rnMe: “I’m takin it all in Jer. Minute by minute. It’s a blessing for me to even be here.” (End Story)rnThe two things that stand supreme above everything in my life at this point is my TIME and the PEOPLE I want to spend it with. Life goes by so damn fast, we sometimes forget to slow down and remember how far we’ve actually came and how precious our lives truly are and where we’re actually headed! We get so caught up with our work, petty bullshit, and whatever else distracts us + we quickly forget that we already have everything we need to live a beautiful life right under our nose. Anyone who knows me well enough will tell you that I’m far from perfect. I have my flaws like everyone else.rnMy work and personal life isn’t always beautiful roses and trips to Europe. I say stupid shit. I make mistakes. I struggle just like every other man trying to support his family and be the best father, son, and husband he can be. But no matter what, I do what needs to be done and I play by MY rules because it’s MY life, no one else’s. My conversation with my wife this evening made me think, “Play by YOUR rules, no one else’s. So long as it doesn’t put someone else at harm or disrespect them in any way.rnYou don’t need to play by anyone else’s rules but your own. When you have great values (rules), your values (rules) will guide you in the right direction. Choose your values (rules) wisely.rnMy conversation with “Jerry” made me realize it’s time to focus on “the present” and the TIME I spend with the people who matter most and to focus more on what I’m NOT doing versus what I am doing and that there’s more to this life than just work.rnNotice the things you love that you’re NOT doing and do more of that. It’s NOT always beautiful roses + trips to Europe. We all have shitty days. However, I wouldn’t trade THE WORLD for the people that are by my side in this picture.rnLet’s have a chat so I can help you design the life that you want.
