Homework is a teaching strategy that surprisingly contributes positively to the development of self confidence in young children. Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs identified self esteem and confidence as part of the aspects that contribute to the well-being of an individual. The problem is, self confidence is neither innate nor automated; it is created through a variety of activities. rnOver the years, psychologists and other researchers have come to agree that homework is one of the most effective ways boosting confidences in young children. So how exactly does homework help in the development and boosting of confidence? 1.Cognitive Skills Cognitive skills such as the ability to think critically and analytically are developed through problem solving. Homework gives children an opportunity to put their cognitive skills to the test and this leads to their development. Homework is handled out of the classroom and the child is supposed to apply the knowledge they obtained in school. While handling the problem at home, they develop their cognitive skills and this eventually builds their self esteem. 2.Planning Skills Normally, homework is performed in steps and sometimes the child is provided with guidelines on how to accomplish each step. For instance, if they are expected to read a book, the basic steps include planning, execution and then the conclusion. Over time, a child who does homework using a variety of guidelines ends up obtaining knowledge on how to plan and execute certain tasks. Such ability develops confidence and builds expertise in the child. 3.Organizational Skills Completing homework outside the classroom environment requires proper organization. Constant performance and completion of homework at home requires organization. As a child performs such activities, they learn the meaning and importance of organization. The same skills may be applied when dealing with other academic and non-academic problems. The ability of a child to organize and complete even one simple task contributes to their self confidence. 4.Opportunity for Rewards Even mere verbal rewards are essential in boosting the confidence of a child. Simple rewards such as “very good, you did quite well” are quite common in school. When the child hears this kind of encouragement at home, it makes more sense because it comes from family members or parents. Praise is one of the most effective ways of boosting the self-confidence of a child. Additionally, a parent may decide to reward the child using gifts and other items. Over tie, the child’s self-confidence is developed. rn5.Closeness and Connections with Parents In as much as it may seem more academic, homework time is one of the moments where a parent and a child develop some connections. Even if it takes only 20 minutes to complete some homework activities, it gives the parent and the child some time to bond. Psychologists agree that the strong connection between a child and the parent contribute to their feelings of safety, confidence and self-esteem. 6.Creativity Homework gives a child an opportunity to be creative and use some of the materials in their home environment to solve some problems. A good example in this case is when a child is requested to use the materials available in the environment to come up with an item that they will present in a class science fair. In such instances, the child is expected to use the knowledge they have learnt in class to create a solution for a particular problem in the community. Creativity in such instances boost self confidence. rnIn some instances, children experience difficulties when performing homework activities. Such instances are especially common when parents cannot help the child and the homework is a little too complex. It is not illegal to ask for help from an outside source. At this point, we would recommend an homework writing service Do My Homework For Me.
