The Culture and Traditions of Chennai: My Experience of South India
There are many museums, historical monuments, museums, worship places, arts centres and beaches in Chennai. You should visit these places during your Chennai tour. Marina Beach: One of the best places in Chennai, Marina Beach is ideal for sauntering around in the morning and evening. It is a 13 km long stretch and a tourist hotspot lined with small markets and eating joints. You can watch a beautiful sunset at Marina Beach and enjoy playing in the sand. Famous as the second longest urban beach in the world, people flock to Marina Beach for leisure activities.
Elliot's Beach: A lot cleaner and less crowded beach, Elliot’s Beach is a tourist spot famous amongst youths and travelers looking for some solace. You can also enjoy eating at the nearby restaurants and eating joints. Enjoy strolling along the sand and feel your feet in the blue-green water.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park: The best place to be at quarters with flora and fauna of the region, Arignar Anna Zoological Park is the largest zoo in South East Asia. There are around 138 species of organisms and animals like lion, tiger, Himalayan brown bear, an elephant can be spotted here.
Marundeeswarar Temple: A magnificent temple, Marundeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is an ancient temple built in 7th -8th century and is widely worshipped by people with diseases and health problems. It is a peaceful place and it also hosts many festivals all year round.
Vivekananda House: Also, called the Ice House, Vivekananda House is a pilgrimage center for followers of Swami Vivekananda. Built in the Victorian style of architecture, it is the house where Swami Vivekananda stayed for six weeks in 1990.
Santhome Cathedral Basilica: A very ancient and historical cathedral, Santhome Cathedral Basilica was built during 14th and 15th century AD by Portuguese. It holds the mortals of one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ.
Kalakshetra Arts Academy: An arts and culture center, the Kalakshetra Arta Academy is located in Thiruvanimiyur, Chennai. It is famous for its extraordinary work in the field of preserving traditional Indian art and culture, especially Bharatanatyam dance and Gandharvaveda music.
Dakshinachitra Museum: It is a beautiful museum dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture. It is one of the living history museums promoting a culture of South Indian states in India. There are many artifacts and images that showcasing South Indian heritage.
Kapaleeshwarar Temple: It was built in 7th century by Pallavas but demolished by the Portuguese, the present temple was built in the 16th century by the Vijayanagar Kings. A very colorful temple, Kapaleeshwarar Temple depicts the Tamil Nadu architectural elements.
