The Dance of the Dragonflyr
This summer has brought a new creature into my life that has brought a deeper meaning to me. That creature is the dragonfly. In the early part of the summer my kids called me out to see this amazing large dragonfly in our garden. It was so beautiful and later I found out that it seemed to be rare with blue eyes. It was definitely a gift with meaning.

I began to explore the symbology of the dragonfly as I usually do when something comes into my life unexpected.

I also was able to see and experience dragonflies during the summer months more often than usual. I began a different relationship with them. I had always been a little afraid of them because they moved so quickly. My fear began to dissipate when they were around me.

Then a couple weeks ago, I had another close encounter with a dragonfly. I walked out onto my deck and one was lying on the windowsill to my bedroom window. I thought it was dead because I walked next to it and it didn’t move. A bit of sadness came over me. When I walked back out a few moments later it was buzzing all around the deck. That felt good and I received a message inwardly as I watched it.

Again, I went to the internet to explore some more symbology. During this time, my son was on vacation at the beach. When he returned he was really eager to give me the present he had found for me. Guess what! It was a beautiful metal dragonfly. He said when he saw it, he knew he had to get it for me. Later that week I also received a dragonfly wind sock. Dragonflies were really showing themselves to me. So a deeper understanding was in order.

So let’s explore the symbology of the dragonfly. You can learn more about the dragonfly and its symbology at http://www.dragonfly-site.com/meaning-symbolize.html. In almost every part of the world the dragonfly symbolizes change and self realization into a deeper understanding of the meaning of life. It calls us to look beyond the surface and look at the deeper implications and aspects of life. The dragonfly has a very short life span and usually flies for only a few months, but in that short time its agility and flight shows power and poise. It can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour. It can hover like a helicopter and fly backwards like a hummingbird, flapping its wings at only 30 times a minute.

Let’s explore a few teachings from the dragonfly. It is teaching us the gift of living in the moment even when change is on its way. It is teaching us to look deeper at who and all we can be as powerful creative spirits. They reflect light and joy.
The dragonfly symbolizes going past self-created illusions that limit our growing and changing.
Dragonflies are a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity.

What is it teaching you?

I truly believe that nature awakens us to a deeper sense of self and awareness. Look for the symbolism that is showing up in your life. What insects and animals are coming to you? When they do, explore a deeper meaning. Meditate and contemplate on what teaching and lessons are yours to know. Allow them to be a blessing. Enjoy the messages and the symbology as they are sharing their deep secrets and joys with you. Enjoy the journey!
