The Dangers of LEDs on Eyes
LEDs are critical elements in all sorts of electronics and devices, and companies will use this technology because it lasts longer and they provide better colors. Some wonder, though, if this causes eye strain. For instance, many people have complained about migraines when exposed to LED light for too long, but the popular thought goes that this light only affects overly sensitive people. Damage Unfortunately, research shows LEDs are indeed capable of causing injury to eyes contrasted with other types of technology. While there are some interesting things about LEDs that could cause this, it’s more due to the fact that the lights are made to project a strong luminescence. As the strength grows, so does damage to the eyes. Colors While all of the LED colors are capable of causing harm, there are a couple hues that happen to do the most harm. Blues and whites have been shown to hurt the most, based on recent research. Because blue is brighter than the other colors (whites are dangerous given their pale blueness), it more easily infiltrates eyes. Damage can last an extended amount of time, but still only temporarily. Other Problems Often it’s not LED-induced strain, but the product hosting the LED. For example, if a short circuit occurs, it can cause the LED to temporarily intensify luminosity to dangerous levels. Due to this, manufacturers have to test their products to ensure they won’t harm a person’s eyes. Protection Although LEDs have been shown to cause eyestrain, this isn’t entirely the fault of LEDs. To make sure that consumers do not receive eyestrain during use, most LED products are certified not to project excess light. This greatly decreases any possibility of someone being hurt by the LEDs. Evolving Understanding LEDs are not new, but they are gaining prominence in consumer products. Via continued studies, scientists will be able to set guidelines for proper LED illumination levels. This will guarantee that products having this tech are unable to hurt consumers. Most manufacturers won’t use any lights that can potentially harm consumers, but future studies will improve this classification. Conclusion LEDs probably aren’t any easier on the eyes. They can cause tremendous eyestrain. However, whenever manufacturers evaluate their devices and will only use certified LEDs, then this light is actually easier to look at than light from other places. As so long as these lights are monitored, LED technology will further improve home and office lighting due to its staying power, intense brightness and quality lighting.
