The Effects of an Eating Disorder Binge
Myth 1 – Being Thin Leads to Success
In today's world there is a lot of pressure to be thin. The media tells us that if we want to land the right job, catch the right man or be successful in life we must be thin. This is simply not true! When I look around I see many very successful people of all body types that are married and have great jobs. There is nothing wrong with being thin, we just can't base our success on it.
Those who engage in eating disorder binges may feel that you must be skinny to achieve a meaningful relationship . They may even avoid relationships in fear of being hurt. We should remove this myth and begin to live life to the fullest. Myth 2 – It is Hard to Diet
Those that have an unhealthy relationship with food and have eating disorder binges feel that dieting is hard. This is because most diets they have every tried have failed. This is not their fault. 95% of diets fail, and dieters end up regaining the weight. Those that experience the cycle of dieting know that the eating disorder binge takes over. Diets are made to deprive your body and ultimately lead to failure. By not dieting you can overcome eating disorder binges and begin to lose weight in a healthy and natural way. Myth 3- I am Overweight because I Love Food
Eating can be a great thing! We enjoy meals together with our family. We celebrate with our friends. Food is a great thing! Many people feel that their weight issue is due to their love of food. However, the issue is not how much you love food, but rather the reasons behind your eating patterns. With eating disorder binges we eat when we are upset or stressed. By eating we gain a moment of relief.
The truth is that you can eat what you love and maintain a healthy weight. By working through the reasons behind your emotional eating you can begin to learn how to have a healthy relationship with food. Your life will be in balance and full of enjoyment without overeating.
We have the ability to reduce the effect of eating disorder binges by developing a new set of positive thoughts surrounding weight loss. We have the ability to change our lives and live happy and free from eating disorder binges.
