Drawbacks of the Traditional PBX system
The primary purpose of a PBX system is to route the incoming calls to a specified extension and to share a set of trunk lines among multiple extensions. Instead of manually routing the calls, traditional PBX uses a switch to route the analog signal to the specified destination. The traditional PBX systems use analog systems and circuit-switched network in which a connection is built between two extensions as long as the call is connected. There number of extensions is limited. These systems typically comprised massive equipment that needed to be set up and maintained at a separate location and skilled personnel were needed to deal with the loads of tangled wires and to resolve the technical issues. Besides, setup and maintenance of this system involved a huge expenditure. Moreover, the calling costs are quite high. The features provided by the traditional systems have now become obsolete and are not sufficient to satisfy the clients.
Shift from Traditional PBX to IP PBX
IP PBX is a business telephony system which operates on digital signals and has the ability to interoperate with the traditional PSTN lines. The analog signal in the PSTN network is transformed into digital signal by using an ATA. This digital telephony system uses packet-switching in which data is segmented into packets which are transferred securely over the network and are re-assembled at the destination. This system is less costly and easier to configure and use as compared with the traditional system. The customer can purchase the hardware for as many users as required i.e. there can be any number of extensions. PBX VoIP is a digital calling technology which drastically reduces calling rates. Thus, the users are free to call any part of the world without worrying about their telephone bills. It offers various advanced calling features which enhance the business communication channel.
How can Hosted PBX help?
This is a hosted service provided in which most of the PBX equipment is maintained off-site by the service provider. So, the cost of set up and maintenance of the system is nullified. Moreover, the overhead of dealing with the IT hassles is eliminated. Since the PBX equipment involves a huge expenditure, the small organizations were not able to afford such expense. For small organizations, this system is a feasible solution since the costs involved are quite low and the small businesses can afford all the smart calling features that the large organizations enjoy. Thus, using this system with IP PBX, you can enjoy all the advanced features such as call parking, call hunt, do-not-disturb, Interactive Voice Response, call forwarding, call return, Direct Inward Dialing, etc. at a reasonable price. This system is advantageous for employees who are always on the go. For such employees, calls meant specifically for them can be routed to their cell phones and they can continue with the business communication from wherever you are. Moreover, the system is scalable i.e. you do not have to buy or use a fixed capacity equipment. Instead, you can get as many extensions as you want and you are free to increase or decrease the number of extensions as per the business requirements. This is how Hosted PBX systems evolved to revolutionize the business communications.
