The Five of Cups

Each day I draw a card for my own Meditation and Guidance. Today I drew the 5 of Cups tarot card from the "Deviant Moon" Tarot, by Phillip Valenza. The Deck was a gift that I received last night. I thought it was perfect timing for the "Crow Moon".

When a querent receives the 5 of Cups Tarot card, I tell them to mou
their past, learn from their past, and most of all to forgive themselves and others for overtu
ed cups, for relationships that did not work out, for broken trust, for betrayals, for our own weaknesses and frailties and failures. I tell them to look instead to the two full cups that are theirs for the taking. Pick up your cups and fill them with love and understanding.

The Deviant Moon Tarot card of the 5 of cups shows a husband and wife squabbling. The nagging wife berates her husband. She is upset over three overtu
ed cups. This card portrays and explains the 5 of cups as a love with problems, with troubles. It's like a love that has lost it's luster. I think of a Sparkling glass of champagne that has grown stale and lost its "bubbly".

When couples fall in love and marry, I believe they all truly believe that theirs is a fairytale romances. The Flowers, the festivities, the wedding wine and wedding cake.. all for an Enchanted honeymoon do make. After the wedding and honeymoon are through, reality sets in. Troubles begin.

I am no different, twenty three years ago, I met my Prince Charming. My Knight of Cups came charging into my life. He brought me Roses and romance. He took me out on the town, he took me to dance. After many years, and many hardships and tears, my fairytale life has become a nightmare filled with tears. This card has affected me deeply today. The 5 of Cups card of the Deviant Moon Tarot made me look at myself and my life, my life as a wife.

On the way home from the grocery store today, I happened upon a talk radio station. The topic was Divorce today. The panel was discussing how Divorce is no longer taboo. Couples realize they have plenty of good years left after they reach retirement. Most women have good jobs and steady income. They are independent and don't have to rely on a husband to "keep them up." One man shared his story of how his wife finally divorced him after 30 years of living with him and helping him with his Bi-polar disorder. He said they still love each other very much, but that she wanted to have a life free of the stress of his bi-polarity.

This radio show took me further into my feelings and thoughts on the 5 of cups Card. I have a friend who separated from her husband after many years of helping him through his struggles with mental illness. She is now on her own and living a new life.

I will still continue to tell my Querents to focus on the two full cups in their lives. We have to dwell on what is well in our lives. Embrace the best in those we love and nurture those qualities. We have to encourage our partners and show our love and support. Love is truly an Act we have to perform every day. Love is a beautiful word. The Words "I love you" are so easy to say. When we truly love someone, we will go to extreme measures to help that person. The Five of Cups card has reminded me to be gentle, loving, kind and forgiving. I have cried some tears tonight and filled my Cup with wine. I have looked at myself and realized that I need to pick up my own overtu
ed cups and fill them with a new attitude, and an everlasting love.
