As “Individuals” we all have goals; whether they are work related or personal. You may want to have an incredibly productive year in sales, you may want to get some stuff done around the house, or it could be anywhere in between these two goals. Any way you look at it, the F.O.C.U.S.E.D. program can and will work for you. For example; you wish to lead your sales team in revenue this year. Here are the steps you need to take to be F.O.C.U.S.E.D.!
First of all, you have to be FOCUSED on exactly what your goal is. You need to be specific!
Fun: You need to make the attainment of your goal fun. If it isn’t fun, then it is work. People do not want to work for a living, they want to have fun. And if you are having fun accomplishing your goal, then you are more apt to put that extra bit of effort into becoming a success. It all comes down to having passion for your goal.
Optimistic: You have to be optimistic about being successful with your goal. If you don’t really think you can accomplish it, then you‘re not going to accomplish it. A positive mental attitude is critical to your success! As Zig Ziglar said, “It’s your attitude, not your aptitude that determines your altitude in life.”
Confident: Confidence is the number one ingredient you need if you desire to be successful. As the great Napoleon Hill once said, “In order to achieve, you have to believe.” A confident sales person will have a much easier time selling to a prospective customer then a sales person who is unsure of themselves.
Undaunted: From time to time there inevitably will be some kind of set back; whether it’s the economy or the time of year. Either way, you need to not let these circumstances rule you and your attitude. As Earl Nightingale said, “We can let circumstances rule us, or we can take charge and rule our lives from within.”
Smart: We have to be smart at the way we approach our goals on a daily basis. “What is the best way to accomplish my goal today?” is something you should ask yourself every morning. Sometimes being smart is taking a day off and getting rejuvenated. While another day it may be smart to keep plugging away until you finish your task at hand.
Energized: Every day you need to attack your goals with high energy; motion creates emotion! If you are lackadaisical about your approach to accomplishing your goals, then your achievement will be less then desired. When working with a client, they will feed off of your energy and enthusiasm. If you don’t care, then they won’t care.
Disciplined: You need discipline to be a success. You need to be disciplined to work on your goals in an efficient and productive manner. Whether you work on your goals every day or just 3 times a week; you need to have discipline to do it. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can get done today.
If you take the F.O.C.U.S.E.D. approach to accomplishing your goals, then you will be a success! If you ever find yourself getting off track, all you have to do is say one word to yourself to get back; and that word is FOCUSED. We all have triggers that can affect us positively or negatively. The word FOCUSED is now a positive trigger for you and will help you get back on track and get F.O.C.U.S.E.D.!
