Tis the season of holiday cheer and, most noticeably, gifts-gifts-gifts. I think Christmas decorations started showing up in stores in September, didn’t they?

As the season becomes more and more about fourth quarter earnings and over-hyped consumerism, more and more people are seeing the wrapping, yet feeling that the packages are empty.

So how can YOU get back to feeling the true reason for the season?

Be Physically Presentn------------------------------
There’s nothing like ‘being there’ to bring people together on a deeper level. It says a lot that you took the time and effort to be in someone else’s presence. Even if you have to put up with a little family drama here and a bunch of blah-blah-blah-bah-humbug there, go… be there… for yourself and those you love.

Be Mentally Presentn------------------------------
You know what it’s like to talk to someone who is constantly looking over your shoulder, or is more interested in the cheesecake than your latest adventure? Not very warm and fuzzy, is it? So double check yourself this season. Listen to those you’re talking to; being ‘present’ in that way means more than you realize.

Be Emotionally Presentn------------------------------
Emotions take life to a whole deeper level. The world has changed because of how people feel. So when you allow yourself to connect to others on an emotional level, it’s as if your world has gone from black and white to color.

Be Spiritually Presentn------------------------------
We all know that life has its constraints. You can’t always be there in the same place at the same time. It’s okay; space and time are just things to prevent everything from piling up all at once. Finding ways to show you care... a card, a phone call, or even a little prayer... will build the bonds that outlast everything else.

When all is said and donen------------------------------
Physical stuff is great, if it’s a symbol for some greater love. If it’s just to show off, or to outdo someone else, or to win over someone, then it isn’t really a gift is it?

The greatest gift is when you are present.

According to the spiritual science of Akram Vignan, the meaning of ‘selfless’ is to live one’s life for the sole purpose of serving others, by whatever means one can and according to one’s skill set and ability; and to do so without expecting anything whatsoever in return. Param Pujya Dadashri, the founder of Akram Vignan, makes us understand how every living being’s life should be, through an illustration of the tree: “Do any of the fruit trees eat their own frui
