The Hierarchy Of Needs Part 3

There are five basic needs that have to be taken care of in life. These basic needs have to bentaken care of in order for anyone to get to a point where they are able to truly express themselvesnin life and feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The four lower level needs are basic daily nsurvival. Not taking care of these needs will force us to put more energy and time into them than isnnecessary. Though the needs are broken down as seperate entities, they are interconnected. Eachnhigher need is connected to the needs below it, and not properly taking care of a lower need willncause a need to back track. The five needs are physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, andnself-actualization.
The second need on the list is security. After we have taken care of a proper diet, nproper sleep, and making sure we maintain a good energy level within our body, nwe can move onto the next need of security. Again, if you haven't taken care of you
body from the inside, learning to take care of it and maintain security is pointless.
Be sure to start with a good diet and exercise program.
Security is the second on the list of needs. This includes things such as security ofnbody, of employment, of resources, of property, and of family. This need is about notnonly acquiring these things, but keeping them from harm and in our own possession.
Of course we already possess our body, but we also need to make sure we arensecuring a lucrative occupation, the safety of our family and loved ones, materialnpossessions that allows us to feel a sense of accomplishment, and other resources.
The first of these is security of body. Depending on where one lives, this is muchnmore pressing than in other areas of the world. Even if you live in a location that hasna low crime rate and is fairly safe, you cannot totally ignore your own safety. Many peoplenhave the illusion that police keep us safe, and this is not the case. This is not to say thatnthey are useless, however, 99% of the time the police chase criminals after a crime has ntaken place. Much more often than not, a crime happens without a police officer even knowingnabout it happening, let alone being able to stop it or prevent it.
The best course of action that anyone can take is learning a martial art that is focused onnself defense and can teach you how to deal with dangerous people and situations. It is alsona good idea for the family to get involved also as you will not always be there to protect you
significant other or children. The worst time to wish you would have taken this advice is nwhen someone has a gun in your face. Especially if you live in an area that has a low crime nrate, there is no guaruntee that you will not be the one attacked when something does happen.
There is also no guarantee that your family members will not be the ones attacked.
We also need to be sure that we have an occupation that allows us to grow financially. Sadly, nmoney is the currency of the world and nothing gets done without it. Since this is the case, nand these are the rules, we must understand the rules well enough to be able to grow and nadvance. This is not to say that you need to be filthy stinking rich, though that would certainlynopen up many more doors and opportunites for you. One simply needs to be sure they havenchosen an occupation that allows them to maintain shelter and other necessary resources forndaily survival. One also needs to make sure that they have enough finances coming in thatnthey are able to take care of themselves or family in case of an emergency. Far to many npeople live paycheck to paycheck because of poor money management or not havingnlea
ed enough about money to be able to earn more.
Other resources that are important for one to be able to maintain basic security are transportation, nrecreation, and knowledge. Without the ability to get around, maintaining a job is all but impossible.
Obviously, if you can't show up for work, your employer won't keep you for very long. It is also nimportant to be able to afford some form of recreation. As they say, all work and no play just makesnfor a dull day. It is also important to continue ones education. Often times, this too costs money, evennif it is as simple as new books to read and study.
In the next part of this series we will be discussing love and belonging. Though it is possible to findnsomeone to love without taking care of security, it can be very challenging and difficult. Money isnone of the biggest reasons for divorce and arguments in many relationships. It's also difficult to getnout and meet new people if your bed ridden because of an attack on your person. Not to mention thenfact that there is little energy left to chase after someone you like if you have all your attention onnwhere your next meal is coming from or where you plan on sleeping that night.
