Flip is an organisation which tries to do this. In particular by targeting future business leaders, professionals and other gifted and talented students and helping to raise their awareness of their social responsibility. This instils in them beliefs and skills which they will hopefully replicate and continue in the future in order for them to help shape a better future. They also encourage the young people to become involved in communal and charitable giving and hence become more sensitive and conscious of both of these things. In addition to this they also try to educate them on the workings of charities including they manage their investments, this not only benefits the students but also the charities and the community as a whole.
There are many different Flip Projects however they all depend on the ages of the students which range from between 16 and 19. The projects encompass things such as doing a charity research project and setting up and managing a 3 year virtual charity investment portfolio to doing actual charity fundraising to financial assisting their selected charities. All projects give insight to the students on the running of an actual charity and by helping them create their own virtual charity portfolios on the necessary financial planning that is involved.
Those who take part in a Flip Project will help to fundraise at least £40,000 for local charities and however much funds they raise will also be matched. They will also be invited to take part in a practical educational programme to help them understand more about the challenges and strategies behind investment management decisions taken by charities, which also increase their financial insight for the future. In addition to this the students will receive financial incentives and gifts during the projects.
By aiming to give back to society through the community’s future leaders they not only aid the selected charities but also the students themselves by providing them with the tools they need in order to possibly get involved in philanthropic activities when they’re older. It also raises their awareness of the importance of their own involvement in these projects and the significant impact it has on society. By shaping the Future Leaders in Philanthropy they encourage the students to start to become more responsible and recognise the roles they could possibly play in making the world a better place, for both us and the future.
