Falling produces a significant amount of energy that can cause severe injury or death. This energy increases directly with height, making falling more harmful as vertical distance increases. However, the severity of the impact of fall can be minimized if the acceleration of fall is reduced, even when the vertical distance remains unchanged. This principle led to the invention of the fall arrest lifeline system. While gravity cannot be stopped from causing objects to fall, something must intervene to allow an object to continue its activity while suspended at a height. A fall arrest lifeline system is a tool that provides protection to those who work on elevated surfaces and are at risk of falling. The system is composed of an anchor or a series of anchor points, a rope or lifeline, and a safety belt. The main priority of fall arrest is to keep a person safe from the effects of falling from great heights. A fall arrest system can be valuable in any activity involving elevated areas. Rappelling and mountain climbing, for example, can be made safer through the use of fall arrest lifeline systems. These systems have also seen use in rescue operations at sea and in some military applications. A fall arrest system can be categorized as either general or personal. General fall arrest systems provide protection without the use of lifelines connected to anchors. The system is usually composed of nets intended to catch people in case of accidental falls. Though it lacks the roof anchors fall protection requires, a general fall arrest system is typically used in construction sites. A personal fall arrest system provides individual protection. A worker on the edge of an elevated area, such as a roof, must wear a safety belt connected to roof anchors fall protection through a semi-elastic rope. This way, the worker can perform his or her task without worrying about falling. The fall arrest lifeline system must be stable enough to bear the weight of the worker in case accidents happen. A fall arrest lifeline system should sturdily support a weight four times its intended capacity. The strength of the system relies on the components’ materials and the stability of connections. Roof anchors are made through high-quality steel fabrication, not only to satisfy the specifications of structural codes but also to make the anchors more effective at fall arrest.
