Face it, there are a lot of scammers on the internet preying on unsuspecting victims. Consequently, most internet users are now wary of what websites say and what online businesses offer. More than ever it is imperative for businesses who have established their online presence to strengthen their online reputation and integrity.
Why is online integrity important?
Because people need to trust someone. Integrity is about trust. Website visitors need to know that your online marketing strategy and whatever you say on your website can be relied upon as the truth. That what you offer your clients is what they actually get when they order your products.
Because people appreciate consistency. Internet marketing should be applied with consistency. Being consistent (different from being predictable) means you can be relied upon. It means customers can rely on the products and services you offer because of the consistent quality and customer service attached to them. If you change your profile or your logo or your web design too many times it projects the image that your online marketing is shaky and you don’t really know what your business is all about. This turns off present and potential customers and smudges your integrity.
Because people appreciate relevant information and fresh content. One of the things that turn visitors away or keeps them from returning to a website is static content. If there’s nothing new with what you’re saying at least in your homepage, your website traffic tends to dwindle. Content is always king when it comes to internet marketing.
Because people are drawn to customer-focused interaction. Online marketing integrity also includes your behavior in social media. If a brand or a business politely and intelligently interacts with its clients in their social networks, there is a bigger possibility of more visits being converted into sales. Customers are more responsive when interaction within social media takes their opinions and ideas seriously. This whittles away any notion that the business is simply after their hard-ea
ed cash.
Because the way people see how you manage your online accounts contributes to your online integrity. Tweets, comments by others on your blog (if your business has one), status posts on Facebook, etc. are for the public to see. Make sure you delete offensive or spammy or irrelevant comments.
There are certain ways to build online integrity. Always be honest and transparent with what you say or display on your website. Make sure your online customer service link works and that whoever’s manning it is polite to customers or clients. Have an About Us page that clearly spells states your mission and vision and make every effort to make your service or products consistent with the vision. Be polite and courteous with your posts, tweets, and uploads. You may not like some of the comments you receive but they’re no excuse for you to be rude. Bear in mind that in this age of the internet, anything can go viral in a matter of minutes, including your rudeness if you’re not careful.
Remember that being consistent with your internet marketing, especially how you treat clients in person and how you respond to them online will establish what kind of online integrity you have.
