When anyone becomes a parent for the first time it is an awesome feeling. There is a beautiful little baby who will depend on both it's parent for every need. It is a wonderful experience to watch this child grow and become a special and unique individual. Sleep Do not over-schedule your children in activities, sports, or extra-curricular activities. While it is important for your kids to have hobbies and interests, being overextended can have negative effects on their schoolwork, sleep habits and stress levels. Time for free, unscheduled play and general downtime is very important, too. Be consistent about naptimes and bedtimes to help your days run smoothly. Kids thrive on routine, and skimping on the amount of sleep they get can impact their health and overall well-being. Check with your pediatrician to see how much sleep each of your children needs, and make it a priority to stick to a regular schedule as much as possible. Never be afraid to ask your parents for advice when you need to deal with your own children. Whether you're looking to gather some information about how to put a baby to sleep, or inquiring about some teenager-specific info to defuse a situation, your parents dealt with these things with you, as theirs did with them, and so on and so on. Do your part to ensure that your children are prepared for school each day, from making sure they get a good night's sleep to ensuring they eat a good breakfast. Fostering these healthy, learning-friendly habits is just as important to their educations as helping with their homework, attending parent-teacher conferences, and discussing what they learn in school. Teens seem to feel that they will get in trouble if they feel they are in a situation the parents won't approve of. They need to be told that even if the parents get a phone call from them in the middle of the night; their lost sleep is preferred over their kids getting into a car with someone that has been drinking or out of another situation equally as toxic. If your infant is having a difficult time sleeping, swaddling can help. When you swaddle a baby you wrap them tightly in a blanket. This gives them a safe, womb like feel. It is a wonderful way to soothe a child and help her to transition to sleep. Soothe your baby with your scent. A newborn can recognize the scent of her mother and is soothed by the smell, which makes her feel safe and secure. To help her sleep better or to soothe her while you are away, sleep with her bedding for a night, so it retains your scent. There are so many single parents today and they must somehow find a way to make up the difference to their children. Most times the parent is working and has little extra time for their children. In spite of the difficulties many single parents do an amazing job of raising their children.
