Internet search is nowadays a part of our daily life. Approximately six million people type in their queries into search engines every day. This translates into approximately sixty one thousand searches per second every second. A professional SEO services provider must ensure that its client company must come up during the search when a suitable keyword is typed. Users also expect that the correct response will appear within a second.

Search services are in extremely high demand as a person can obtain information in a few seconds compared to the same information that could be obtained by spending hours in the library. A foot search and riffling through a number of books would at least take two hours if not more. Moreover, users can also do many activities that cannot be done in a library- banking, shopping and social networking. This radical shift is termed by social scientists and investors as a disruptive event. Search engines are at the heart of such a disruptive event. Events that change something in a fundamental way are termed disruptive events. The website of a business must have a high ranking when people are searching for that product or service which the website provides. This is critical to the commercial viability of the business. Obtaining a high rank in search results is not a simple matter. That is where good professional SEO services come in.

The user has a wide range of search engines to choose from. Search engines must bring out a relevant, fast and fresh search experience if they want to attract visitors to type queries in their search bars. Perception too, is very important in this regard. People seek out search engines; they believe will churn out the most accurate results in the least amount of time.

Search engines invest a lot of energy, time and money in improving the relevance of results. This includes doing an extensive study of user responses to their search results. These search results are then compared to those of other search engines. Eye tracking studies are conducted to understand user behavior. Public relations and marketing campaigns are also done.

The primary revenue source of search engines is through paid advertising. Maximum revenue comes from the Pay per Click or PPC model. According to this model, advertisers pay only when users click their advertisements. As these revenues are directly linked to search engine results, manipulation of search engine rankings for the purpose of displaying non-relevant results are taken very seriously. Such manipulations are termed “spamming” and invite severe penalties for websites that indulge in them.

Among search engines, Google has the largest slice of the pie. Other notable search engines include Yahoo and Bing. The dominance of Google means most professional SEO services providers focus on that search engine.
