The Island of Peace – Silchar

Silchar is the 2nd biggest city in Assam and is situated 420 km south-east of Guwahati. It is a favorite commercial centre of Assam due to its tea cultivation. Sichar is located on the banks of the River Barak and is famous as Barak Valley. It is the economic gateway to Manipur and Mizoram states, and the main office of the Cachar District. The Bhuban Hill in Silchar is also quite famous for the Bhubaneswar Temple and the sculptures of Shiv and Parvati. Another attractive place near the Bhuban Hills is the Maniharan Tunnel. The tunnel is said to have been utilized by Lord Krishna at the time of visit to the place.
