There are many things we have given up in the 21st century - things that our forefathers and grandfathers would never have imagined life without. We no longer do bizarre rituals smearing our bodies with stinking dyes. We no longer jump up and down around campfires, this we now do in discotheques and call it dance. We no longer walk great distances for a sip of water. We no longer sneak behind bushes to attend nature’s call! rnWe no longer go to war with swords, spears, javelins and shields. We no longer put up with tyrant and dictators. We no longer build huge walls to protect our cities, towns and villages. We no longer hunt for sport, killing animals wantonly; we now fight to save them. We no longer scream with joy when condemned men slaughter each other in gladiatorial games. We no longer use pigeons or beat drums to convey messages. We no longer think of our planet as the centre of the universe. We no longer think of humans as God’s only creation. rnWe no longer howl like mad during a full moon, we gifted that to those among us who were convinced about the existence of werewolves and their feud with vampires, goblins, elves and other infernal creatures of the night. We longer believe in superstitions and burn innocent people as wizards warlocks and witches. We no longer believe in slavery or allow the enslavement of countries and continents. We no longer sail in wooden ships. We no longer envy the birds as we have guns that can shoot them down for dinner. We no longer think of submarines and flying machines as science fiction, as we turn for the space age! We no longer buy video cassettes or audio cassettes. We no longer talk on landlines, not when most of us carry mobile phone recharge. We no longer go out to pick up food, we have it home delivered. We no longer use pens, paper, pencils and typewriters, we use iPods, iPads, laptops, keyboards and desktops. We no longer visit libraries or information centres, we surf the web with search engines such as Google. We longer visit shopping malls unless on outings with friends and families; we shop online.
