The law and you

The L in the PLANTS is a key pillar for your career success. The Ugandan society is increasingly becoming litigious. You are your best lawyer. As you succeed or grow, you will knowingly or unknowingly step on some people’s toes. Many won’t let it lie down. You will most likely receive intentions to sue. Some people may deliberately come into your life with intention to benefit from you. You need strong mastery of the law. The second most important document you must read from cover to cover after the Bible is the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. This document defines your rights and obligations as a Ugandan or Resident. It prevails on all other laws of this land. Every day, you get a copy of the newspaper and read from page to page. That is good to remain up to date about current events. How about a decision to read a chapter a day to grasp the key provisions in the laws of the land. Parents and executives in my private mentorship programme (www.mustaphamugisa.com) often ask to teach them confidence. I usually advise they first identify the source of the insecurity and lack of confidence: Is it abusive parents or partner? Is it lack of trust by the significant other? Is it lack of key information on the matter at hand or it is lack of knowledge about their rights and obligations. As you drive back home, on which basis would you refuse to give a bribe to a rogue police officer asking for your driving permit; or else you are reprimanded. What does the supreme law of the land provide for in respect to producing a driving permit? Or what law is applicable? What does the law say?
