The `Light-Weight` Congressman

A strange thing happened a few days ago, that I wanted to share with you.
I was part of a small group standing in a field next to an industrial complex, and the subject being discussed - - -was building another accompanying complex...
The group consisted of a two developers, two local politicians, a stock broker who was going to be a `money mover`, and a realtor.
After the meeting, I was driving away with one of the participants, and we began discussing one of the group – and we both had come to the same conclusion - - and that was - - - - one of the group (actually one of the politicians) was a real `light weight`.
What an interesting conclusion – and even more interesting was that we both came to it at the same time.
This was not merely gossiping; It was two students of human nature discussing a fascinating subject – the perception of power, or lack of power!
When we began the discussion, the first thing we looked at was clothing – was this person dressed any differently then the others?
No, in fact he was probably dressed better than the others. One of the developers had on a sweater, and the other had on a windbreaker. Our subject had a blazer and tie. No, it was not the clothing.
Was it the posture? Yes, but only partially. His posture seemed to indicate that he was eager to please.
His overall demeanor and attitude was doubly interesting, because the developers were coming to him for the city’s blessing. They needed him – and yet, he was so eager to please.
He was very willing to laugh at the slightest provocation – and seemed to need their approval.
To top off the mix, he was the oldest of the group – complete with white wavy hair, and the looks (until he expressed himself through speaking or posture) of the `older gentleman`.
Yet, he did not carry his age with dignity.
The more we discussed this individual, it became apparent that he was not proud of himself – for reasons, of which, we had no knowledge. The more I thought of it – I had to conclude that he was not proud – (almost certainly – because this is the way of most of us) – of opportunities presented to him, and not taken.
When we are honest with ourselves – most of our frustrations come from not seizing opportunity when it comes. Perhaps it was not the `right time` (The `Right Time` never really comes).
Usually it is from lack of courage – decisiveness – in choosing a path to follow when opportunity does present itself.
My guess was that the `opportunity` (probably a multiple of them) always needed research, time, the endorsement of someone - - - - - or something, that prevented him from `seizing the moment`.
My experience with the people who did `seize` the (or an) opportunity – carry themselves differently. They exude a confidence that seems to say - `I did it`! (Whatever `it` is or was - - - it certainly differs with all of us.
But the sense of `having done it` exudes from them like a mighty aura – it is always there for all to see – but seldom spoken. It is just there!!!
And they don’t try so hard to `please` - - -- - - -usually it is other people who try to please them. It is a confidence, self-assurance that automatically attracts others in a most favorable way.
So, the moral of this little story is - - - - - - Don’t be like this poor politician!!!
The `Perfect Time`, the `Perfect Opportunity` - - - does not exist.
The Great opportunity often comes disguised as a `good` - - - - not a `perfect` situation.
This poor fellow – the politician – seems not to have grasped what life had offered him - -, and left – unfulfilled.
Life always offers opportunity!
Live life boldly!!!! Seize your moment!!!!
