Bhutan, The Last Shangri-La, is the small country in the Himalayas between the Tibet autonomous regions, of India and China. Bhutan is the only Vajrayana Buddhist nation in the world, whose profound teachings of this tradition remains well preserved and which exerts a strong influence in all aspects of life. Paro Tsechu This is a very important Buddhist festival in the country. This is a five day long religious celebration which is held in spring each year. It is a very interesting fest for the enjoyment, where monks dress as saints and demons to re-enact the great battles of Buddhist mythology. During this fest ritual dances are performed, music is played, and copious amounts of barley wine and butter tea are drunk. This festival of Paro Tsechu should be experienced by any one if he wants to enjoy the Bhutan to its fullest.
