Tips And Tricks Before Purchasing Circuit Breakers
1. The Rating For Voltage The rating of the overall voltage is given by the highest amount of voltage that can be applied through all of the end ports of the circuit breaker. It also depends on the distribution type and also the way the circuit breaker is integrated into the system. Therefore, you should always choose a circuit breaker with varying capacities of voltage to be able to meet all the needs and uses you need it to fulfil. 2. The Overall Frequency There's no denying that circuit breakers can be rated up to 600 AMPS with applied frequencies between 50 - 120 HZ. If the circuit breaker has higher than 120 HZ frequency, then that frequency rating has to be derated. The circuit breakers that are rated at 600 AMPS will contain a bimetal which is transformer-heated and will be suitable for at least 60 HZ AC power at maximum. Generally, circuit breakers are applied between 50 - 60 HZ frequency rating. Still, in order to maintain peace of mind, you should check the same with your electrical contractor to ensure that the measures for calibration are good before you install a circuit breaker. 3. The Total Capacity For Maximum Interruption The rating for interruption is mainly given as the maximum amount of fault current the circuit breaker will be able to interrupt without causing the overall system to fail. You can easily calculate the amount of fault current at any time if you have the necessary tools and knowledge. One of the rules that you need to remember when choosing the circuit breaker is that the amount of interrupting current rating should be equal or higher than the amount of fault current that is being supplied - otherwise the circuit breaker will be of no use. If there’s any failure to apply the right amount of interrupting current, then the circuit breaker will simply fail. 4. The Rating For Continuous Current When it comes to continuous current rating, the circuit breakers will be rated in general amperes - at any specific ambient temperature. This rating will be the continuous current that the circuit breaker will carry mainly in ambient temperatures - the temperature at which it was calibrated. As a general rule of thumb, you should always go with circuit breakers which are calibrated at 104 degrees Fahrenheit. For any kind of standard application, the ampere rating will depend on the duty and load cycle. 5. The Testing And Maintenance When you're selecting a circuit breaker, you should decide to buy either a product that has been UL tested or not UL tested. In this case, UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories. If you want to enjoy the quality assurance of the product that you're buying, it's suggested that you buy a UL tested product. Non-UL tested products will not contain the right amount of calibration - which can be disadvantageous and dangerous as well. Thus, it’s better to consult a certified electrician before you can determine what kind of circuit breaker model will be right for your home needs.Further reading
