The Nutshell Version of GMAT Exam Before You Face It
The desire to be a part of business schools abroad will not be fulfilled without clearing GMAT. The application for the study of business, management and hospitality courses needs good marks in GMAT examination.
You have no idea about GMAT, and still, you have started your preparation for the exams as you want to make your dreams come true. It’s a blunder!!! What matters the most is to know the right time to begin. So, to know where to start and how to start the GMAT preparation, here is the rough guidance for all the beginners of GMAT Exam.
What is GMAT?
The GMAT or the Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized computer test, required as part of the application process foremost of the MBA programs all over the world. The exam takes almost 4 hours to complete.
In this exam, one has to be very competent in English, Mathematics, and analytical writing. One has to be very strong in English and Maths to score good marks in GMAT exam.
GMAT Selection
- AWA Essay- 30 minutes
- Integrated Reasoning- 30 minutes
- Quantitative Selection- 62 minutes, 31 Questions
- Verbal Selection- 65 minutes, 36 Questions
How to score a good rank in GMAT?
- One has to acquire a score on a scale of 0 to 60. The verbal and quantitative scores are combined into a total score on a scale of 200 to 800.
- For the AWA Analysis of an Argument essay, the candidate can score on a scale of 0 to 6.
- One has to get a score from 1 to 8 in full point increments. Like AWA score, this section is scored separately and is not adaptive, nor a part of the 200 to 800 score.
- Overall, you have 5 different scores: AWA score (0 to 6), Integrated Reasoning score (1 to 8), Quantitative score (0 to 60), Verbal score (0 to 60), and a total score (200 to 800 for the Verbal and Quantitative)
Quantitative selection overview
The third section of the GMAT is the quantitative section. It follows the Integrated Reasoning Section and AWA essay. Here are the other details.
- Questions and Timing
The candidate requires to answer 31 questions in 62 minutes. It means they get two minutes per question on an average. Each question is of multiple choice with 5 answer choices. Once you answer a question you cannot go back to review it or change the answer.
- Scoring
The Scaled Score of this section ranges from 0 to 60, although a score below 7 or above 51 is rare. (Same for the Verbal section)
- Environment
In this section procedure, you cannot use any type of calculator, but the rough paper is provided in the form of an erasable note board (5 legal-sized pages laminated in clear plastic) and a thin-tipped erasable marker pen.
