When you are quitting smoking, there is one thing you need most. More than any book or program on the best way to quit smoking. What you need most is a group of supportive friends, family and co-workers. Why? Quitting smoking is not always easy. There are times when you feel it is very easy and that quitting is the simplest thing you have done. Then there are those other times when you think you can even hear those cigarettes calling your name. This is when you need to have that supportive group of people who can encourage you to stay smoke free. They can even be smokers, because a lot of the time it is your smoking friends who will encourage you most to give up. Many smokers want to give up but do not believe they have the willpower or strength to stop smoking. These people are your greatest supporters. They believe in you and want you to succeed. Now there are many support groups for those wanting to quit smoking. If you are that way inclined then they are very beneficial, have buddy systems like alcoholic anonymous and similar groups. But if you do not have friends or families that are supportive, then quitting smoking will be hard. All you need is their encouragement to start quitting. Then the gentle reminders of how well you are doing. They can take your mind off the stresses that may lead you to smoking as well. Most people smoke when they are stressed, tired or bored. Having those around you aware of these traits makes it easier to replace the cigarettes with something else. For example... You get home from a busy day at work; normally you would sit back and relax with a gentle puff on a cigarette. Instead you can go for a walk with your children or spouse. Add in other ways to relieve stress to take place of smoking. Having supportive friends and family helps. They can give you ideas on many things they do to cope. They are thee to talk to and listen when you are getting grumpy or irritable. Use them, rely on them and realize that the biggest thing you need when quitting smoking is a good supportive bunch of friends and family.nn
