If you absolutely must lose some weight fast, the quickest way is to go through a short low-calorie diet. You will lose up to 10 pounds during the diet, which helps you to fit into that dress of yours or can be a great beginning for a longer dieting scheme. This is the upside of these quick diets.
Starting a quick diet means that you lose weight quick because of the extreme calorie restrictions. And now to the downsides: the results are only temporary. If you don't make any changes to your regular food regime, you will end up gaining the weight back pretty soon after the diet is over. The weight loss happening during a quick diet is mostly water weight or even muscle tissue. Losing muscle tissue can actually make it harder to lose weight, since less muscle means the resting metabolic rate slowing down and your body starting to consume less energy. It is also possible that the low calorie diet will push your body into a starvation mode, and it will start saving energy the best it can to protect its functions.
There are other problems associated with extreme low-calorie diets. When your consume fewer calories than your daily energy requirement, you might feel yourself weak or sleepy. It might get difficult to keep up with your daily chores and other activities. On top of that low calorie diets are often lacking some important nutrients, so continuing the diet for too long can lead to nutritional deficiencies. The deficiencies can lead to lack of iron in the blood (anemia) or loss of bone mass (osteoporosis). Your skin, nails and hair might deteriorate. There are even some neurological risks related to the lowered serotonin level in your brain, which can lead to depression or anorexia nervosa.
Fast diets are safe to use every now and then for a short period, but with caution. Don't continue them longer than is recommended on the diet plan. Like explained above, it can be harmful to continue a low calorie diet for too long. Yoyo-dieting (constantly losing and gaining weight) is not recommended either.
So, if you are hoping to lose some weight and get permanent results, you need to figure out how to lose weight fast and easy and without risking your health.
