The Results of Personal Development

What do you need personal development for? Whether you are trying to better yourself because you just want to, or whether it’s because you want to get a promotion on your job…I take my hat off to you.

It would be great to just jump right into a book about purpose, extract all the nuances and be done. However, we have to touch on the role that personal development plays in the process, and in addition we have to look at how life’s experiences have affected us. If you wondering why, I can tell you that it may determine how difficult it will be to acquire what you’re after.

There are so many areas that personal development can help us excel in. We have our personal lives, our professional lives, our social lives, our recreational lives, etc. The thing we have to realize today is that personal development is a huge market for making money. Hopefully, that money will be an investment in your life’s purpose.

In other words if you’re really looking to develop, there are a lot of resources available to you. You will have to do your due diligence and look into the opportunity that is most suitable for you.

We have so many companies and individuals that train us in customer service, management, public speaking, weight loss, self defense, art, music, etc., etc. Some of the fees are very hefty, and some aren’t so bad. What we need to realize is that the information that those instructors, teachers, and facilitators expose us to isn’t so profound that we really need to pay an arm and a leg (at least not in most cases).

As a speaker, trainer, and singer, I’ve had to do the same thing that I’m suggesting for you. My earliest developmental resource was Toastmaster’s. Through Toastmaster’s I’ve been able to learn the nuances of speaking. I would say a speaking posture would be one of the most important accomplishments gained from that resource.

I’ve also had the opportunity to become a trainer of trainers by the Service Quality Institute in Minneapolis. Upon completion of the program, I became a certified trainer, and an instructor. That added to my level of expertise and professionalism.

The same follows suit when I was certified as a law enforcement instructor by FLETC (Homeland Security), and later when I was able to join the National Speakers Association. I was honored to joi
NSA, but had I not been afforded those opportunities to better myself, I probably would not have received the type of acknowledgement that I have (numerous letters of recommendation and appreciation from government agencies, and private companies).

In addition to that I’ve continued to be considered as a keynote speaker, a trainer, or even a vocalist for the national anthem. So take it from someone that actually has had the opportunity to see that it works.

However, we should take advantage of each learning opportunity because that will probably be instrumental in our fulfillment of purpose in this life. The real truth of the matter is that, we have to be reminded, and reconfirmed about the very thing that lies within us. Now, ask yourself is that an investment you’re willing to make.
