Developing mental toughness is not easy. However, with the right information and a motivation to succeed, you will be able to develop this through your own efforts. In this article I will discuss the benefits of possessing a mental toughness, and I will also provide you with some mental strength tips that will enable you to meet and overcome all challenges you face in life DEVELOP MENTAL TOUGHNESS: DEFINED Mental toughness is being at the right physiological state which will enable you to be focused, confident, determined, consistent and perform at your maximum potential during high pressured situations. Having mental toughness is important because it will highly benefit you in many different aspects of your life. Here are some of the advantages if you develop mental toughness: - You will be able to perform well and excel during pressured and stressful situations. - You have mental advantage over your rivals and competitors. - You will be able to get back on your feet after falling. - You are able to get better results even though the success factors are low. - You will be unsinkable and unshakeable in any situation. Toughness cannot be usually seen in a person. Some might misinterpret a person are mentally tough who is bossy, outspoken, opinionated and demanding. Below are the characteristics of a person who has developed an all-conquering mental toughness. Ask yourself if you have these qualities. CONFIDENCE - Apart from believing that you will succeed in everything that you do, you have to brace yourself for all the challenges that you will encounter. COURAGE - Being courageous is having fears but being able to confront them head on in order to achieve your goals. COMPOSURE - Despite what is happening in your surroundings, you are still able to keep your coolness, control and self-possession. RESILENCY - You are a strong person, constantly pushing yourself forward until you reach your goals. MOTIVATION - It is very easy to be motivated but the challenge is how to keep yourself motivated. You must partner your motivation with staying focused in everything that you do. FOCUS - You are able to concentrate at any task given to you especially during high pressured situations. rnACHIEVE A STRONG MIND THROUGH DEVELOPING MENTAL FOCUS In order to develop a toughness of mind, you must also need to develop mental focus. Here are the steps: 1. Have a Clear Vision- The clearer you are on what you want to focus on, the better chance you have of staying focused on the things you need to do to achieve success. Ask yourself the following questions: a) Where do I want to go? b) What do I want to achieve? 2. Avoid Focusing on the Uncontrollable- You only have control on your thoughts and actions and nothing else. When you start focusing on the outcomes you can't control like other peoples actions and attitudes you're bring on unnecessary anxiety 3. Stay Cool and Composed Under Pressure. Stress and anxiety causes you to lose focus. Some great ways to stay calm during intense, pressured situations include deep slow breathing, muscle stretching routines, or listening to slow relaxing music. 4. Affirm with Cue Words and Phrases- Cue words or phrases are very effective in reminding you of your particular points of focus. Constantly repeating words and phrases such as be calm, concentrate, keep working will be powerful in reminding you to focus on the task in hand. 5. Use Guided Imagery And Visualization- Practice picturing yourself carrying out the task or activity successfully. Focus on the perfect outcome or result. Staying focused is difficult to achieve. Here are some of the reasons why you cannot attain mental focus: - You are not motivated. You want to do something but you cannot keep yourself motivated. - There are too many environmental distractions such as people around you, technology and unfriendly environment. - Mental blocks are the most crucial factor why you stay out of focused. You keep on resisting it. You are inviting negativities to come to you. rnDeveloping mental toughness is not easy but if you will follow the above tips, you will be well on your way to acquiring the mental qualities needed to excel and succeed in everything you do.
