Psalm 18:30 “Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.”

There are times when a situation happens to someone else and we really don’t know what to say. They may have lost a loved one. They may have a challenge at work. They may have financial difficulties. They may have a broken relationship. They want to talk to us and we listen, but we don’t really know the right words to say that will make them feel better.

The truth is there are not really any words we can give them to help them feel better about the situation. We can listen and let them know we understand; however, they are in control of their feelings. We can tell them things will get better but it is up to them to decide to make things work out and to stay positive about the situation.
Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”

The only right words to give them are the words from God. God has all the right words for us to say to others when they are dealing with problems in their lives. Whatever the reason for their issues, God has something in His word that will comfort them. God knows our problems before we even have them and He knows what we need to get through them. We shouldn’t get discouraged if they don’t listen but we should pray and use God’s words to give them hope, show them love and help them find joy again.

God has hope, love and joy spread throughout the entire Bible. He has situations where people have gone through similar problems and how they dealt with them. He has both good and bad results about people who have decided to obey or not to obey Him. God has examples in His book that was specifically written for His people about how to deal with life and how to live the right life.

We need to think about problems we have had in the past and remember how we got through them. We have both good and bad examples we can share to help others. There are people all over the world who are going through situations we have already been through who need help and guidance. We need to look at what God has taught us through our past and see how we can help others with the right words.

Taking initiative to look at our past and help others learn to deal with issues we have already left behind will help them to know they can have hope for a brighter tomorrow. Stepping up and telling someone who is hurting or upset that God can make things better if they would believe and turn to Him for guidance will give them a new direction to turn. Looking for opportunities in conversations to share God’s word with others will increase our awareness of what others need.

When we hear people talk about issues they are having in life and we take the initiative to go to God to help us find the right words to say to them, we are helping them and we are helping ourselves. We are helping them to have hope for a better solution to the situation. We are helping ourselves to become more comfortable about sharing our stories and God’s word. We are creating an opportunity to make a difference.

Ecclesiastes 12:11 “The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.”
