A wedding day is one of the most joyous occasions, in a girl's life. While there are many different ways to plan a wedding, there are a few things that the mother and father of the bride are expected to handle leading up to the wedding, and on the wedding day. Since every bride has different wedding day expectations, it is a good idea for brides to sit down during a non-stressful time and discuss what she expects from her parents as the wedding date approaches. When everyone has a clear itinerary, not only will this decrease everyone's stress levels, but it will cause everything to run more smoothly because there will be little room for error. Here is a brief overview of the responsibilities of the mother and father of the bride leading up to, and on the day of the wedding. The Father of the Bride: Walking on sunshine. Is it customary for the father of the bride to walk his daughter down the aisle and give her away to her groom. It's a good idea to practice this walk prior to the wedding to find a walking tempo that suits both the father and the daughter. Dance fever. The father/daughter dance is probably one of the most recognized traditions at the wedding reception. It is important for the father and daughter to dance to a song that holds special meaning. The toast of the town. While many people give speeches at the reception, the most important one is the toast that the father of the bride gives. The Mother of the Bride: Dress to impress. The mother of the bride traditionally goes with the bride to choose her wedding dress and accessories. It is also common for the mother of the bride to get together with the mother of the groom and discuss and choose their own dress choices. Bon voyage! The bride's mother usually helps her daughter get changed out of her wedding dress and, and she handles the storage of the wedding dress. She also helps her with any last minute things that might need to be done to get ready for honeymoon. Party people. Because the mother of the bride usually has her own set of friends, it is a good idea for her to contact her friends and plan an engagement party and wedding shower for her daughter. The Mother and Father of the Bride: Check please. Traditionally, the mother and father of the bride take care of the wedding bill. However, in modern times, the wedding expenses are often shared between the bride, groom, the groom's parent's and the bride's parents. However, if there are any last minute expenses, the bride's parents should handle those expenses. Guess who's coming for dinner? Because the rehearsal dinner is usually the last time the bride's parents will be able to have dinner with their daughter before she is married, it is common for the mother and father of the bride to host the rehearsal dinner. Since it is unrealistic to expect anyone to cook dinner for more than 4 people during such a stressful time, it is a good idea to have the dinner catered. Social Butterfly. It is the responsibility of both the mother and father of the bride to spend time socializing with the wedding and reception guests and thank them for taking the time to share this special day with you and your family. While all of these things are important, perhaps the most important role of the bride's parents is to enjoy their daughter's special day.
