After getting an email invite to my school reunion not long ago, I had a reality check. 10 years had passed since I last laid eyes on any of those former friends. I debated where my life had taken me, and if that was something I was prepared to share. Then I started wondering about silly things, like what I looked like, and if I would be a disappointment. I had almost convinced myself I'd be better off forgetting about it, but then started to think if I didn't go, I may wish I had.

It hardly seemed possible as I slumped into my couch, that it had already been a decade since I last left high school. So full of vigor and tenacity. I planned on taking on the world. But then again, so did the other 387 kids in my graduating class. Where I was now was suddenly launched to the forefront of my brain. Where everyone else ended up, was slowly creeping in from behind.

There were so many other lives involved. It was so much more than just my own experiences and pit falls. There was this collection of souls, bound by a couple of memories and a graduation. I wondered where they ended up now.

I tossed around my hang ups. My prideful nature and my nosiness colliding on occasion. I had fantasized about the possibilities. Seeing the guy who gave me my first kiss...hugging my former best friend again. Could it be possible to spark some old connection?

Questions and fond memories kept pulling me back and forth as the days passed. High school was never my thing. Funny that I was actually considering whether or not I might enjoy going back for a night now. The trouble was that these only happen every 10 years. Even though I was on the fence, there was some pressure knowing it would be that long before I had another chance.

So I talked to my husband who is 4 years ahead of me, knowing he wouldn't have much to offer, but wanting his advice none the less. He had chosen not to go to his reunion, much to my disappointment. I loved the idea, and would have eagerly gotten myself all 'gussied up' to take a trip back into his world. See his old friends and girlfriends. Maybe get some small glimpse of who he used to be.

He hated on the idea for a full half hour, when I'd all but resolved it was silly to even consider going. After a day or two passed, and it was no longer consuming me, I got a surprise from one of my old gal pals. She had put some goofy pictures up on her Facebook page, and linked them to mine. We were so young and eager to play model, as we splashed at the beach, and had pillow fights for the camera. It was me...well, it was.

And that was when it happened. Just as clear as could be I knew I had to go to the school reunion. Because it really didn't matter who I ended up now. It's the journey and the people along the way.
