If you have spent any amount of time researching work at home jobs, chances are, you have come across multilevel marketing job opportunities. Many big companies in the industry have done a great job advertising their businesses in a way that gives a win-win, easy-money perspective of what they do. But, if you are considering getting involved in multilevel marketing it makes sense to analyze it thoroughly to determine if it is right for you and if it is truly as great as the advertisements make it out to be.

Multi level marketing (MLM) is also known network marketing. Bring up MLMs amongst friends or family and you will likely wind up in a heated discussion, because it seems almost everyone has a strong opinion about this type of business. While some people have a developed a feeling of mistrust about MLMs because they have either been burned or have heard horror stories, others are quite excited because they have experienced or know of big time success stories. It makes sense to consider both sides of the coin as you determine whether you want to jump in multi level marketing from home.

The fact is that it is easy to get a very one-sided perspective about the industry, depending on where you receive your information. If you learn about an MLM company through a glossy print ad in a magazine you will receive a positive impression as you read about the possibility to have the freedom to work at home while making a healthy income. However, doing a search online for MLMs can reveal quite a few negative websites and forums focused on warning people of the dangers and pitfalls of multilevel marketing.

Your best bet to making the right decision when it comes to your involvement in a MLM company is to truly understand the potential problems with them and learn all you can about the particular company before you give them one cent of your money. As in all new business opportunities, education is key.

Multilevel marketing is defined as a business model that is focused on product distribution. Through this type of marketing, companies influence consumers directly by way of relationship building, and direct communication, as well as recruiting and referrals.

The employees of an MLM are not salaried, but are rather known as independent distributors, who receive commission only. Their compensation is determined by the amount of products they sell as well as by the number of people they recruit to become distributors under them (downline).

A few of the major pitfalls of multilevel marketing business include:nn· A large majority of people who get involved with MLMs lose money. Reports have shown that as many as 90% or even higher fail in their attempts to make money with multilevel marketing companies. nn· The further down you are in the downline, the more difficult it is to obtain new recruits and to make sales. If the market is saturated, you are going to have a difficult time making any money.nn· Due to the investments of time and money typically required of MLM start-ups, relationships tend to suffer. Marriages have failed and other relationships struggle when the MLM distributor is pushing products and recruiting tactics on friends and family members. nn· Many former multilevel marketing distributors feel that the companies mislead recruits, causing them to believe that it is possible to work the job as a side-job, or to build the business up to full-time while keeping your current position. In fact, these people report that MLMs take a significant amount of time and energy and money, making it very difficult to create success while working a regular full-time job.

Of course, any company comes with pros and cons, so it makes good business sense to thoroughly research and analyze any company before you get involved or make an investment. Just as there are MLM horror stories, there are plenty of success stories as well, so keep an open mind and learn as much as you can as you determine if multilevel marketing is right for you.
