The person who has a multitude of friends pays the price to keep them. Friends are like a garden. You have to plant the seeds, water them, fertilize them, and periodically you must pull up the weeds that get in between. The popular person must devote the majority of their time to maintaining their friends. Popular people are people persons. If you want friends you have to be willing to sacrifice time and effort that you could devote to other ventures to maintaining and cultivating those friends. The first thing that you have to do is to be friendly and approachable. If you want friends you have to be friendly. People gravitate to other people who display self confidence. The friendly, confident person will always have friends. You must show yourself to be a friend in order to have friends. Remember that your friends will put an awesome demand on your time. You can’t fake being a people person. If you have a hobby, happen to be an athlete, or have a passion which requires much of your spare time you may need to let it go. People really are important to a friendly person. They are more important than other endeavors. Friends will be your extracurricular activity. Be yourself. People will very quickly pick up on self doubt which causes you to attempt to put on another face. People will accept you with whatever quirks that you might think that you have. Don’t worry too much about how people perceive you. If you are natural and confident they will see you in a good light. Don’t operate with an agenda. Just love people and enjoy them. Everything else will take care of itself. You don’t have to go overboard to demonstrate to people that you love them. Follow the Nike slogan and just do it. The more people that you meet means the more friends that you will have. The woman who wants a husband won’t find him in her house while she sits around wearing a bath robe and house slippers. She needs to pretty herself and get out and mingle. If you want friends you need to do the same. Some people don’t deem it important to have a lot of friends which is fine, but you have to make the choice about what is important to you. Each time you go out to mingle you are presenting yourself to others. Make yourself appealing. Studies have shown that attractive people tend to have more friends. People will better respond to you if you are clean and well groomed. People will show more respect for you if you show respect for yourself. Visit places where crowds are prone to gather. You will find a greater number of people in these places so you get more bang for your buck. When you are around more people, you will meet more prospective friends. Part of being approachable is being a good listener. People live in their own world and will gravitate to anyone who makes them feel as if they are special. Take the time to listen to people and show conce for their problems. A problem that someone else has may seem small to you but it is the most important thing in the world to them.
