THE MOST IMPORTANT BETTING SECRET!  With Triple Crown season almost upon us, you can bet that people all over not just the United States, but the world will be hoping to find just the right bet for the Kentucky Derby (6:24 EDT Post Time, 5/5/12).  There are still several key Kentucky Derby prep races to be run like the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct, the Illinois Derby at Hawthorne, the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park, and the Florida Derby at Hialeah.  You can use those races as your opportunity to come up with a strategy that suits you as a bettor and maximizes the cash you can walk away with from Derby day.   BE SELECTIVE, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!rnYou enjoy watching the horses run, most definitely, and you enjoy the thrill of watching the immensely talented jockeys lead their horses in an exciting stretch drive.  But, if you weren’t allowed to bet on the races there’s just no way you would spend your hard-earned money on gas and food to make a special trip out to the track or even to the local OTB if you couldn’t put a bet down!  Those people that believe otherwise are, quite simply, totally mistaken.  However, if you want to try to actually win some money AND walk away from the track with some of your winnings, the most important thing to remember, even before buying that Daily Racing Form and studying the charts on each race, is that you must know GOING IN that you WILL NOT bet every race.   That phrase (I WILL NOT BET EVERY RACE) should be embedded into your brain like a transcendental meditation or creative visualization mantra.  In your mind’s eye, put that phrase into bright neon lights and surround it with firecrackers popping off loudly every few seconds or so, because nothing else is as important, and none of the tips you get here or anywhere else will save you if you insist on betting every single race on the card that day.  It’s very simple:  try and bet on the races you think you can realistically win.  If you do your homework properly, you should find 3-5 races, or more sometimes, that are actually races that you could clean up on with the right win/place/show but also with a quinella/trifecta/superfecta bet, or some other combination exotic be .rnOnce you have that all squared away in your head, then you can start looking over your Daily Racing Form charts and pick out some horses you think may be strong.  Check their workout times, and pay attention to the surface he/she is most comfortable with.  Stick to those basic fundamentals and there’s no reason that Kentucky Derby day will not be a fun packed day for you and your family!
