The CT scans is carried out by the use of x- rays. In addition to that contrast agents are also used. The role contrast agent is very vital in the field of CT scanning and many other imaging techniques. It is basically the most important agent to be administered into the patient’s body to carry on the procedure of scanning, because without using it the different body tissues cannot be distinguished from one another. That will not lead to successful completion of the CT scan and will not show the actual reports. Though there are some Side effects of CT Contrast, but still is a vital thing required.

A contrast agent is also referred to as dyes. It is basically a fluid kind of material that is used to highlight the specific tissues. The things that are normally used as contrasts are iodine, barium, barium sulphate and gastrografin. It is easily available in the pharmaceutical stores, but only when prescribed by the doctor or the radiologists. There are various ways through which the contrast agents is pushed or administered into the body of the patient.

It can be done through intravenous injection, given orally or rectally or by inhalation in the form of vapours. It has the power to weaken the x-rays. The body of the patient is moved along with the scanner through a sphere. As the body moves the x-ray beam is passed through the patient’s body, the x-rays get weakened by the effects of the contrast agents, which in turn highlight the contrast containing organ making it look different from the other tissues. When the images are developed these areas appear to be white.

Although the process of CT scan is considered to be harmless, but the Side effects of CT Contrast should also be mentioned. It does not cause any serious to the patient. Some of the problems with it are that, the patient have allergy from the chemical used. The patients suffering from diabetes are not suitable to have the contrast agents. For such adverse conditions different steps are taken.Normally the effects seen are not so dangerous. It’s like fatigue, vomiting, constipation, when the contrast is injected rectally headache, nausea, dizziness, and sometimes the breathing problems is seen.
