Keep hydrated and well fed. The first step to starting your revision is making sure you’re feeling full of energy! It’s hard to concentrate when you’re hungry or thirsty so make you sure you keep a refreshing drink by your side and don’t skip any meals. Start with a hearty breakfast that will keep you going until lunch time, and don’t be afraid to treat yourself to some snacks during the day to keep your energy levels up whilst you’re working hard. Get plenty of kip! Alongside a full diet make sure you schedule plenty of sleep in your busy revision schedule. Getting much needed rest will help you keep your energy levels up and ensure you can hold your concentration. Be sensible and have a few early nights over the Easter revision period. Remember, whilst revision shouldn’t take over your life, GCSE and A-Level results can affect the career path you take, so you’d be wise to take them seriously. Also bear in mind that whilst plenty of kip is great, sleeping in late in the mornings will actually leave you feeling groggy and unmotivated. Pace and reward yourself… To make revision more bearable, set yourself some challenges and offer yourself rewards! Maybe reward yourself an hour on Facebook when you finish a test exam paper? Or enjoy some Haribo when you’ve remembered a set of equations? Set yourself a goal and when you know you’ll get something you enjoy in return for completing it, revision can be a lot easier! Maybe even reward yourself with a full day out with friends when your weeks’ worth of revision has gone well. Get assistance – get yourself to a revision class! If you want to ensure you’re making the most of your Easter revision period, get yourself to a revision class nearby! There are revision programmes and classes across the country. A revision course is a simple way to add structure to your revision plans; you’ll get advice from staff who know how to make the most out of revision techniques plus you could meet some new people and make some new friends! Revision courses have a relaxed atmosphere (not like school) and you don’t have to wear a uniform. Plan in advance and… don’t panic. Don’t leave things to the last minute! Stress can be avoided if you take time to plan things out in advance. Choose time slots for each subject and schedule in time to relax and hang out with your friends too, keeping calm about revision is vital in making it a success! When you’re not terrified of exams you’ll find that you can focus on each question a lot more easily, and taking the fear out of exams means knowing that you have tried your hardest in the preparation leading up to them. Planning in advance isn’t something ‘geeky’ it’s just a sensible solution that can allow you to approach exams with a sense of pride and confidence.
