It is a well-known fact that Italy is a place to be when it comes to good food that fills the bellies. There are many Italian products that people from all over the world crave for. Perhaps some of the most popular food items from the shoe-shaped peninsula are the various types of seasoned meats that can be enjoyed individually or as ingredients for a particular dish. Here are a few meats that one should meet in a culinary sense. Mortadella Mortadella is a close cousin of baloney, although its preparation is more complicated than the latter. This type of meat is primarily made from the neck part of a pig. The ground pork is treated with the usual salt and pepper, as well as special seasonings such as peppercorns, coriander, and anise. This meat is best enjoyed in thin slices, because the proportion will bring out the flavor and the aroma of the product. Pancetta Pancetta is made of a pig’s belly that is seasoned with salt, pepper, cinnamon, and other spices. The belly is air dried slowly in order for the flavors and aromas to meld into the meat. This food item can be enjoyed raw or cooked to a crisp. Either way, pancetta is always best in thin slices for maximum culinary effect. Salami Salami is a meat product that most people are familiar with. This usually refers to ground pork and fat injected into casings. There are many different types of salami, each with a distinct flavor and smell. Pepperoni is arguably the most popular kind of salami, as it is a staple pizza topping preferred by a lot of people. Prosciutto Prosciutto is more commonly known as Italian ham. This type of meat goes through a long process before it achieves the form that is served on the table. In preparing the ham, the pork is first salted and drained of blood. After a period of air drying, the pork is washed and sliced accordingly. These are only some of the Italian meat treats that a food lover should definitely try. The meats are alright by their own, as well as in medley with other ingredients and food products, such as Italian cheese and wine, among many others.
