At a time when world attention focused on global debt issues with the Live 8 concerts and G8 summit in Scotland, the Make Poverty History Campaign (MPH) and various anti-poverty marches, it seems that everyone wants the world's governments to behave ethically towards the manner in which international finance is conducted. This is obviously a laudable attitude to take, and has gained immense momentum with such public opinion, Don, that even the UK Chancellor Gordon Brown said he intends to participate in Make Poverty History demonstration in Edinburgh during the G8 summit. G. Brown called on world leaders to follow their decision on debt cancellation for the poorest countries with aid and fairer trade rules twice. Chancellor said: "This is the day people are not politicians. The people's voices to be heard." Although such a prominent member of the British cabinet with his accompanying statement that the world was "angry" and "outraged" over Africa, which continues, despite repeated past pledges from the richer nations of poverty assistance was welcomed many who believe that the various activities being organized to influence the leaders who attended the meeting influence, others see his words as hypocrisy. Human rights lawyer, Aamar Anwar, said: "Mr Brown, along with Tony Blair and George W. Bush, there are people who are responsible for poverty and hunger around the world ... the G8 offers a £ 30 billion in costs out to poverty reduction ... It sounds like a lot, but it is absolute peanuts when it is compared with £ 280bn, which was brought on the war in Iraq. " The problem is that although there was much talking and finger pointing to the rich and powerful governments in the world, says that, as they do not stand up to the international financial moral scrutiny, how many people can actually look at their own finances and state that they do everything themselves to help and that they are ethically beyond reproach? Does your bank or credit union to lend their savings to companies who are involved in activities that can range from weapons manufacturing, gambling, pornography, tobacco, animal testing science children's work, whether they instead direct their investment in activities that have positive social and / or environmental effects? Most people do not have to think about where their money is invested, when they pay the mortgage, pension or savings account, they just think about the return they will get their money back. This seems to be changing, however. After consultation with its members, the Co-operative Insurance Society, which has more than £ 20 billion in funds management, became the first insurer to launch ethical engagement policy and said it would lobby businesses at every opportunity to improve their ethical performances. Co-op already tries to ensure ethical compliance with the adoption of new business customers to complete a questionnaire to conduct policy, which should be evaluated in the bank before agreeing to provide business services.rnFinancial comparison sites such as Moneynet are now releasing guides provide information on ethical investment covering all aspects of personal finance from bank accounts, investments and retirement choices of domestic energy providers. Other organizations, such as the Ethical Investment Research Service was established to provide information to a company's ethical behavior of independent investors, fund managers and providers of charity. The world is slowly waking up to the idea that liability should be made accountable for their actions or the actions of global, national or individual level. Lobbying politicians and interest, which originated in the "Live 8" and the MPH campaign can help to change, but they must be continued after the media furor, if we want real change. Ethically responsible nation is only possible if we also make changes to your home. Until we really get our personal finances into perspective, MPH becomes just another fashion label.
