Everyone wonders what the future holds for them. Some people have a quick answer, but others may not be entirely sure what they want to do with their lives. Signs may be pointing you towards a career in science, but making that leap is difficult. The following is meant to help clear out the clutter and help you see the path forward. Natural Interest is There The most obvious sign that you should pursue a science major is that you already have an interest in science. Keep in mind that science is a very broad term, so you have to identify your interests clearly to see if there is a connection leading you toward a science-related degree. Those who have a keen interest in things like chemistry, earth sciences, geology, ecology, meteorology, or even astronomy should definitely consider a degree in natural sciences. An interest in things like physics, mathematics, statistics, or computer science means that you might be suited for a degree or a certification in formal sciences. Of course, those interested in sciences that reveal how the world ticks like biology, zoology, human biology, botany, or psychology should pursue something in life sciences. Getting Qualified is a Bigger Concept Than Some Think A person who is in love with details and points out inaccuracies while watching shows or movies is destined to become a member of the science community, but some obstacles may be blinding his or her path. One of the biggest obstacles facing some people is not understanding how expansive science can be. Some people believe that a scientist must wear a lab coat and have a PhD, which may be the case for some but not for all. A scientist could have on regular clothes and work with athletes if he or she is interested in sport sciences. Yes, a key to unlocking a science career is a PhD, but that is not the only thing available to you. Experts point out that in 2017 26K science qualifications were awarded, and they were all Bachelor degrees. This means that those interested in a science career but do not have the time to be in school can still unlock the path. It does help that Australia ranks as 6th in science education, so job opportunities in this country are plentiful. Certainty is Not Necessary Things are not always certain when it comes to making a decision, yet it seems that some believe that you should be certain of your career, which is not the case. Being a scientist means you are open to change, which could mean a whole new career path at any given time. In essence, there is no degree or certification in science that locks you in place. Sometimes, a degree or certification represents a step toward something else you are really interested in, so the most important step is to simply take that leap. You might be surprised by this, but just like any other career, things are constantly changing. Many people change their careers. Some are promoted while others just see another part of science that interests them and pursue that. Keep in mind that chasing another interest does not necessarily mean spending years studying it, especially if there is a certification of some kind available. There is no telling where your mind can take you once it is unclouded. Hopefully, some of these points help clear your mind of misconceptions and other doubts you might have had. Do not worry so much about being uncertain because a big part of a scientist's life is to live in uncertainties and ask questions.
