- Visit the Melbourne aquarium, zoo, and gardens.rnThese activities are perfect for families traveling with younger children. You may have seen interesting animals and beautiful flowers in your own town, but you haven't seen it all until you’ve explored the animals and flowers of Australia. There are two great options for exploring nature in the confined setting of city gardens: the Kings Domain and the Royal Botanic Gardens. If you're an avid gardener make sure to bring a camera to capture the more unusual displays of nature which you’re unlikely to grow back home.
- Explore the Yarra River. This may not be the best day trip for families with small children, but it is just perfect for those who want a bit of culture and refinement in their trip. You can walk along the path through the heart of the city looking at a variety of art displays and fantastic buildings as you follow the river. After enjoying the art and buildings you can take a tour that explores the river as well as other areas of the city.
- See the "Penguin Parade" on Phillip Island. You’ll have to venture a couple hours outside of Melbourne to reach Summerland Beach on Phillip Island. Book this sightseeing adventure at the Visitor’s Centre in Melbourne and you won't be sorry you ventured out of the big city. On the shoreline of this beach huge waves of tiny penguins, called fairy penguins, come out of the water on to dry land at dusk. This is an amazing site to see! Floods of these small penguins emerge from the water in the dark until they are flocking along the beach by the hundreds. It doesn't matter who you are traveling with or how old they are, everyone will want to see this.
- Go skydiving for the rush of it. You can find a skydiving adventure in different areas just outside the city. There is a two day skydiving course in Bendigo which includes an adrenaline-filled free fall. You can also go skydiving in the popular Yarra Valley region. Ask about skydiving adventures and tours at the Melbourne Visitor Centre. This isn't an adventure for children, but remember this is a list of things to do in Melbourne for everyone in your group. Who’s up for the thrill of their life? You’ll find lots of other exciting things to do in these locations too.
- Put on your snorkel and swim with the dolphins. Swimming with dolphins is another adventure that can be found close to Melbourne, on the Mornington Peninsula. Put on your snorkel and flippers and prepare to be gawked at by the dolphins swimming around you. The seals will find you interesting too! This is an activity everyone can join in. See, there really is something to do in Melbourne for everyone in your group! Travel with your family, a group of friends or colleagues, or just with that someone special you love. There will be plenty for everyone to explore.
