Applying Thinkiatry’s Principles to RELATIONSHIPS:

As a society we all need help: Individually, our negative thinking emotions about ourselves and life in general are at historic highs. Our national divorce rate has been a disgrace for years, Family relationships are deteriorating beyond belief, and our work relationships need a lot of work.

Yet, relationships are so important to our level of healthy psychological functioning and happiness each day.

Every Relationship involves two minds, each with their own unique habitual thought processes, feelings, and resultant moods. In addition, each of us interprets others through our own Separate Reality – our own unique habitual thoughts about what’s right and wrong in the world, and the people in it.

The first step to quality, healthy relationships is our relationship to our own thinking. When our thought process is negative our feelings, mood, and relationship skills are not healthy.

Thinkiatry’s 1st three Principles – Thinking, Feelings, and Moods teach us that the only value to negative thoughts is to let us know when we are off track and headed toward emotional distress. No relationships can survive habitual negative thoughts from either party. Thinkiatry’s Principles and Process teach us to manage and virtually eliminate our negative thinking – and others are then drawn to us.

The second step to healthier, happier relationships is to learn Thinkiatry’s 4th Principle – Separate Realities. This Principle teaches us that no two people have identical habitual thought systems – others will never see life and other people precisely the way we do. When we understand the Separate Realities Principle we no longer expect or demand that others see life our way – our relationships grow to a whole new level of understanding and happiness.

In closing, we can all choose to do nothing and continue to live within the confines of our existing habitual thought systems and marginal relationships expecting different results. Or, we can choose to learn Thinkiatry’s Principles, Process, and Self-Therapy Path to healthier psychological functioning with richer, more rewarding relationships.
