It’s How not Why?

Between the interviews I have conducted and the many Panels I have facilitated one thing is super clear about the thinking of successful people and high producers compared with low producers and unsuccessful people.

The key for successful people is this: when they do self analysis, they ask themselves the question how can I do this better or how can I get from point A to point B or how will I achieve my goal for the month?

In the meantime, the unsuccessful people are asking themselves these types of questions: why did the market have to change or why is it so hard to find customer for my product or why is my business so slow?

The short version of this article is simply this: Everything starts with the way you think. Change the way you think and you will change your life!

Much research has been conducted over the past several hundred years dealing with psychology and the psychological makeup of the human being.

Until about the late eighteen hundreds psychology was a sub-branch of philosophy. When scientific research took on a life of its own and began to analyze the habits and genetics of human beings, the study of psychology became the focus of much scientific research and remains so today.

We can examine the writings and teachings of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle between 470BC and 322BC to confirm the awareness and study of logic, knowledge, the theory of forms, the concept of non-matter being reality and the theory that things existed outside all space and time. This era is home to some of the first documented philosophy of two parts of life, matter and non-matter.

Passions of the soul was written in 1649 by Rene Descartes, the father of modern philosophy. He was one of many warriors in the scientific revolution of the 17th and 18th century. Descartes was a promoter of the concept and theory of dualism or what we would refer to today as mind and matter. In his various works, he depicts and describes what we now know as emotions.

It was Rene Descartes, the French philosopher who was also the “father of modern mathematics” who first said, “Je pense, donc je suis” (French) or “I think, therefore I am”. (Latin: “Cogito ergo sum”.)

With Darwin’s study of evolution which included, in part, the study of biological instincts and survival he developed what is known as the theory of evolution by natural selection. Darwin was not alone in his discovery and research as Alfred Russell Wallace also from Great Britain was verbalizing his thoughts on evolution by natural selection at the same time.

Although the work by Darwin and Wallace was based in biology it morphed into the study of choice (natural selection) and what prompted the selection of certain genes and cells. It was the intellect of these decisions that inspired the next generation.

These studies were continued by the next generation which included the likes of Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), Carl Jung (1875-1961), and Alfred Adler (1870-1937). All three of these gents developed theories and concepts dealing with the sub-conscious mind, spirituality, the inferiority complex, the intrepretation of dreams and generally the power of the mind as we know it today.

Advanced studies continue today by universities and individuals across the globe on the power of our minds and the influence of thought in our daily lives.

In any event, the conclusions we can draw from these scientific and philosophical point of views is that life itself may be a choice. While that thought may be arguable we should all be able to agree on the fact that how we choose to live life is a choice.

So….The Strangest Secret in the World by Earl Nightingale or The Secret by Rhonda Byrne written years apart are in agreement with the minds of thousands of years earlier, it’s not really a secret, it’s a case of mind and matter and it’s a choice!
